**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

Arsenal are buggered!

I dont suppose it would be too bad for Arsenal, if they stick with the proposed timeline then it would be 4+7 for 2010. I guess Arsenal should be able to field 4 English players in 2010. Theres Walcott, Gibbs, Wilshere and Almunia would be "english" by then. So thats 4 without buying anyone now, and they still have a while to buy 2 english options if they decided not to go with Gibbs or Wilshere.

I imagine that so few managers are kicking up much of a stink about it because a) What FIFA wants, FIFA often gets b) most of them can field 4 nationals in 2010/11.

Sadly that UEFA reference is not the case for this ruling.

Here is the exact stipulation for the ruling by FIFA.

"At the beginning of each match, each club must field at least 6 who are players eligible to play for the national team of the country of the club." (4 in 2010/11 , 5 in 2011/12)

So its not home-grown as such, its actual nationals.

from the BBC:

Liverpool defender Daniel Agger could be on his way out of Anfield after snubbing a new four-year contract worth £10million. (News of the World)

At least six Middlesbrough players, including Stewart Downing, Gary O'Neill, Afonso Alvez, Tuncay Sanli and Julio Arca, are ready to leave the Riverside Stadium if the club are relegated from the Premier League. (Mail on Sunday)

Tottenham are set to make an £8m summer move for Marseille striker Djibril Cisse, who is currently on loan at Sunderland. (News of the World)

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is also hoping to sign Chelsea's teenage midfielder Jack Cork for £2m. (News of the World)

anyone know anymore about the BBC claiming Kaka is in talks with United? As much as id love to see him wear the shirt, i find it highly unlikely.

It is not the BBC claiming Kaka is in talks, it's the sun. The BBC just puts up a list of stories that are in the papers each day.

As for the credibility of the story, well it was in the sun so draw your own conclusions from that ;)

I believe the Kaka story came from a joke post on a MU forum ..

Yup. It was done a year ago and was somehow bumped lately.

Shows you how much effort the papers put into the stories.

Kaka will sign for United on less money than he gets at the club he is so in love with? Surely there was a rat kicking around somewhere the could have sniffed?

BBC are reporting that Juventus will make a bid for Xabi Alonso again in the summer, if Rafa lets him go then Rafa should follow him out as well, as much as I like him, he cannot let one of our most influential players leave.

I said the same thing last Summer, Benitez would be mental to let a top class professional in Alonso leave and replace him with an average player in Barry. Alonso does everything Barry can do and more.

But now Rafa has the control over all transfers anything can happen :p.

I dont think Benitez wants him to go. If he does go I completely believe it will be because he doesn't want to stay at the club, not just to make room for Barry.

I wouldn't want to hold a player that doesn't want to be here. But personally I think he'll be with us next year.

Not sure if its been posted but Cannavaro is going back to Juventus after he finishes his contract with Real Madrid. I'm suprised they want him back to be honest after he left when they got relegated

You'd imagine Alonso has done enough this season to justify his place in the team, or at least the squad as a whole. That, and his popularity with the other players, would make me think he's not going anywhere.

The reason why Alonso didn't leave last summer was because nobody reached/could afford our valuation. After the season he's had his value will have gone up.

The only way i can see him leaving is if Real come in for him (which has been suggested) and he wants to leave. Rafa gave an interview a while back saying he wants him to stay and also confirmed that the only reason why we listened to offers last summer was because we needed the money.

The initial idea was that they thought they could buy Barry and sell Alonso for a big profit to spend else where.

However even with Villa's insistance on Barry's fee and no big enough offers for Alonso, Rafa was willing to have both players and miss out on another position.
