EDIT: Damn. I messed up the white outline at the bottom. Easy fix.

Lets get one thing straight, I really don't care that much about your entries, or what Spie does with his business aslong as I can still buy PC components, i'm not that interested in corporate brand identity myself but I do have a like(big up paul rand), understanding and appreciation of what's involved.

What I was more interested in was the fact that as a pro gord didn't flag up some basic errors in the logos, that's subsequently been cleared up. You can call me arrogant/harsh all you like, there's no elitism going on here, nothing I said was unfair, untrue, or undue, clearly it's out of place here, but no one has actually adressed any of the points i've made; The only thing anyone has been able to muster is - "you couldn't do any better" as if I have prove myself in order to have an opinion (or for my opinion to have any worth) or trying to make excuses for the quality of work. This whole bully thing is slightly out of place seeing as i'm outnumbered by about 1000:1, if you actually disagree with any of the content or points of the stuff i've said besides reacting to it because you see it as harsh, i'm happy to explain myself. But apparently I now have to submit my own logo and refuse it's use unless I get paid £££'s?

Slightly off topic, but could someone explain to me how, using inkscape, you are getting your designs out of inkscape and hosting them somewhere, and subsequently being able to post them in this thread?

My original ideas from gfx card forum:
I kinda like the one they got now, so my attempts are quite similar :p

Cant decide if i like it as above, or with some white on the smaller text as below.

Must say though, Damian666's design is pretty awesome imo :O

-edit-
One third design, wanted to make "OCUK" Stand out more so increased the black border and decreased opacity of the background.

Not overly keen though ;x seem a bit crowded.

My 4th idea:

Who cares. Stop trashing the thread.

blah blah blah
You are missing the point. All you have done in this thread is point out things negatively without giving any positive suggestions, as well as submit sarcastic entries to try and make some sort of point. How exactly are you expecting people to respond?

"Ooh the almighty Samione has spoken, damn guys, I guess we should all withdraw all our entries because everything about this competition is wrong because Samione said so, and we wouldn't want to upset the almighty graphics PROs like Samione now would we?"

Constructive comments = "yeah I like that but if you add/take away <x> i think it would nicer"

Your comments = "This is all wrong, Spie should not be doing this, rebranding is a HUGE process blah blah blah whine whine"

Moan moan.

IMO, the best logos are simply no more than an iconic image that contains no text.

Take Apple, Windows, McDonalds, Pepsi etc.

The problem is though that with the likes of OcUK is that:

1. It has already been established and popular so to go in this direction in terms of a logo would be a big change.

2. It's very hard to come up with a logo for a business like OcUK that is original whilst at the same time being eye catching, iconic and meaningful.

Christ, you're like the embodiment of The Sun. I think you're missing the point and completely overreacting. Adopting a globally established identity (the union jack) as your logo is risky, because you can end up without your own identity, this is not good for any company - it's good to want to represent the UK, but the union jack is a tad unecessary, the site is already established as a .co.uk and UK is the company name. The marque says nothing about the company, or consumer electronics. None of this means you can't run a successful business(obviously - see overclockers.co.uk), however you could be running an even more successful business with decent branding. It's why lots of companies spend large portions of their budget on it.

Which point am I missing? That the P.C. brigade (no pun intended) jump on our countrys flag as a symbol of the BNP & the like or that Overclockers has "UK" in its name and the Union jack is as far as I'm aware, the flag of the UK?

Embodiment of the Sun? sadly, I have no **** on my page 3. my views on the media is thus.... ;)
