ArmA2 and TrackIR5

looks useless, with the screen being small your having to move you head but still keep your eyes on that 1 spot

impress me when its 180 degree around you

plus is that man him out of anchor man/evan all mighty?

Well worth getting if you don't already have TIR4, but if like me you have TIR4 already there isn't enough to warrant an upgrade.

Far from useless dude, been using it for a few years in several flight sims and other games. I'd say it's the one bit of kit I couldn't be without. And why would you need a 180 degree monitor when you can look around 180 degrees on your existing monitor.

It doesn't follow your eyes - it follows the attachment on his headphones

Looks like a good system to me, although it's $150 and I'm not sure if I'd use it sufficiently!

yes but if you get what i mean, you cant look 90 degrees to right can you? ull only be able to see screen in corner of your eye.

so to me, that looks useless and doesn't impress me.

bring on the 180 screen or even better a 360 screen :D

then put them things on, it would be good use then i thinks :)

I'd watch the video - you can set it up so that your character on the screen moves far more than you

That is, you can set it up so looking 20 degrees to the right will cause your character to look 90 degrees to the right for example

Lol I dont undersstand why so many people make this mistake. In an age of computers where everything is a variable.

Of course you can set the sensitivity up so that when you move your head 5 degrees it moves the ingame head 90 degrees.

Its all explained in the new vid here, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9wXx3vMy_AQ , or the link in the original post which you seem to have skipped all together and got right into posting how crap trackir is without actually informing yourself.

Hah youre not quite grasping the concept. If you move your head 5 degrees your in-game vision looks 90 degrees. Look 10 degrees and your in-game vision is looking behind you.

Ive only ever used this system in flight sims and its absolutely brilliant for those - you pan the sky looking for enemy very naturally, you can look behind after a bomb drop using 6dof (6 degrees of freedom) you can look under your plane (or as much as you can see by leaning close to the canopy).

Personally tried it once or twice as infantry and in tanks and it wasnt *quite* so useful because it was very easy to get disorientated when running unless you went in a straight line (not a good idea).

Still until 360 degree monitors this is the next best thing.

So you actually did not even watch the video ( which explains how its works) and then replied with a retarded comment , classic

I tried mine in Live for speed and it put me off a bit. Its best application is in flight sims for sure, it excells at that. As for ArmA/2 it could be good, will take some getting used to though.

no what im getting at is ill be impressed when we have 180/360 degree screens/ view points

but yes i did only watch half the video as i decided i felt like playing wolverine :)

360 screen is stupid. It would cause considerable back pain.

Just stop with the stupid moronic comments .. its almost troll like.

im just replying to quotes

but im being serious in this thread :) 360 screen with arma 2 would be immense and it wouldn't be back aching if you had right gear to do it.......guess it'll be a long time till it happens though :(

Closest I have ever got full immersion was playing arma on 2 x 24" screens
with a trackir4 and res of 3840 x 1200 ( too much information was brain overload - but it did fill my full field of view)

For those thinking of a TIR, google freetrack and Cachya first. These are webcam/software solutions. IMO TIR is better (no load on cpu), but check them out anyway.

Nate

lol, sorry Rybo89 but i don't think you really get this. You talk about the "right gear" to do a 360 degree screen, and TIR is it! (virtually, ofc).

I was damn impressed when i saw the TrackIR in something other than just a flight sim.

However, my jaw dropped when i saw how good ArmA2 looks! (and runs)
