Tiger Bread

this is true, ive always found it really odd. what on earth do they coat it in?!

still, its tasty so i eats it.

I work (part time) on a the bakery in the local Sainsbury's, the topping is basically a paste made with (mainly) rice flour. I think there's a bit of olive oil in there too. Not sure.

And yeah, if you think it smells bad after baking, try a whiff of the paste

Edit: I made a giant one once. It was awesome.

Yeh tiger bread is tasty isee in asdas they do tiger rolls tiger baps tiger french sticks aswell, so much to chose from

Tiger bread from asda is lush, so great for sarnys but even better for use as dipping in soups especially chicken soup with butter on the bread or even without depends on mood.

It's coated in rice paste :)

Nope

Sesame seed and sea salt paste, After making it for nearly 7 years working for Tesco and 2 years working for Sainsburys i know for sure that there is no Rice paste any where near a tiger bread.

I also know its one of the hardest things to wash from your cloths and in doughnuts its is rather vile, but good for fighting with when board of work :D

tesco and sainsburys cant just come along and reinvent tiger bread lol.......

its rice paste or not tiger bread at all

Its funny that being a baker for nearly 15 years and making tiger bread for 9 years you would think i know what its made from!

unless the contents of the paste has changed since i changed jobs 7 years ago then it is most certainly sesame paste not rice paste.

It looks like bread on steroids - which is probably a good thing. Going to fry an omelette with one tonight :D

you would but its not tiger bread unless the crust is rice paste.

google for recipes, seek the history of tiger bread.

if its not rice paste its not tiger bread no matter what you have been trained

My gf raves about this so I tried some and meh tbh. Give me a freshly made bog standard farmhouse loaf anytime.

Tiger bread smells like crap. How can you eat the stuff when it smells like a 3 month decaying human body?

I was going to say the same, even when people bring it in the crew room for sarnies it makes me feel sick. The smell of fresh bread is awesome, tiger bread although I don't mind the taste the smell puts me off.

There are 50 better tasting rolls and breads in any supermarket.

Tiger bread from Tesco is lovely. Tiger bread from Sainsburys is like bloomer bread with scabs on the outside :/
