Linglong

Didn't I hear a few months ago that tyre manufacturers had to produce higher standard tyres sometime? i.e. more efficient for fuel, quieter and better braking ability? Not sure if it was some new regulation or just fluff that they'll ignore.
 
i had p6000s on an a4 years ago. i suffered those for a long time. nasty things wouldnt die. i reaplced them with contactsports and the car was improved massively

ling longs and p6000s are tarred with the same brush for me
 
I had some linglongs on my old car when I was skint that month in uni. They were actually ok in the dry and this was a 150bhp fwd hatch.

The worst tyres i've ever used were Falken 512's by a country mile.

Depends how you drive the car, those who don't drive quickly down country roads etc will have no idea they have pants tyres till its too late and they have an airbag in their face.

This is ridiculous. There are a number of factors that affect how long it will take you to stop in an emergency, tyres are just one. Brakes, weight and driver tiredness are some others.

Do all you folks that stand firmly on your high horse at the sight of Linglongs also recommend to every Joe-Bob driver that they get Bremos and throw away the rear seats to save weight?

that has to sum up the ignorance completely. until theyre bearing down on the stationary object/traffic ahead, wheels locked, white knuckles locked on steering wheel, wishing they had decent tyres

i dont see why self preservation isnt factored into tyre choices :confused:

Brakes stop the wheels, not the car. So even fantastic brakes are useless if the tyres are rubbish.

nah, that sounds like the audi sport site

i do have good brakes though, standard sizes, callipers etc but i have decent quality stuff. ive not stuffed my car yet

I agree, but why not minimise one of those factors but getting decent tyres.

This is the thing people don't understand....take the OPs sister's fiancee. On their 307:

To get Brembo's - £2000+ (they'd need new alloys, calipers, discs, pads and then labour). Although it may improve the braking quite a bit.

To remove weight - Massive inconvinence and not a lot of improvement in braking.

To get decent tyres - He could have bought Falken FK-452's for another £4 or gone all out and bought Eagle F1's for around £30 more. Improvement will be huge on braking between Eagles and Linglongs, bareing in mind that the difference between Linglongs (**** budget tyre) and the Nankangs (best of the **** budget tyre) was 7meters...

Is it wrong to spend a little extra money and time choosing a tyre that's going to be markedly better and safer? Instead of simply choosing the cheapest set available, that just smacks of ignorance to me. I'd never consider using such a tyre, mid range tyres aren't much more expensive. There's no excuse.
 
Reminds me when i pickup up the 5, Jct 600 had changed one of the rear tyres, half worn piliot sport and some no-name junk on the other side, first roundabout when i got back home and the rear washed wide, no reason for it wasn't even going fast, LSD kicked in locked the back end and almost sent me round, but don't forget kids cheap tyres are safe :p
 
when will people realise its the only part of the car that touches the floor. i.e very important in the not making you dead stakes.

Considering how much better I did than some on the surprise left hander at the last meet, the slating of P6000s is way exaggerated.
