TF2 Sniper Update

Imo they should just give the new weapons/unlocks to everyone with each update and keep the achievements/milestones in there for the A.D.D/Xbox 360 crowd, then everyone's happy.*

* Everyone except the lamers who begrudge other people having "rewards" for arbitrary meaningless achievements

Just had loads of people hate me on the hampshire heavies server, unlocked the rare spy hat :o

I really should play as spy, might unlock my much sought after sniper items...

Got every spy item now from playing sniper :(

It's not about how many points you get (though topping the leaderboard is nice) it's about your team winning or losing. Unfortunately on 2Fort there'll be about a bazillion snipers and if they don't get you as you're running accross to the other side the gazillion sentries will and you'll have little to no hope of getting past them as nobody wants to be a medic.

As someone who used to play QuakeWorld Team Fortress pretty seriously, it's surprising how little teamwork there is on CTF maps and how little tactical awareness people have with CTF maps.

I was playing 2fort yesterday and no-one apart from me was defending. I plonked down a sentry down in the briefcase room and a dispenser in the corridor outside. Amazingly, none of the opposition realised that I was using the dispencer as an early warning system for incoming enemies. They always attacked the dispenser, giving me enough time to get back and help my sentry out. I even had time to run off and set up an teleporter exit in the enemy sewer.

I assume clan games are better but I don't really have the time to commit to regular games.

On a completely different subject, is there any way to check your weapon unlocks online in a similar manner to acheivements?

Go to character setup on the main menu and click the loadout briefcase.

I was a fan of the TFC days, medic conc nade jumping was amazing! :D They were the scouts of the old days :D

There does seem to be a lack of players who have a clue at the moment. I was playing on H|H servers on the weekend and some maps that just involve a basic principle such as defend flag or rush capture points...is lost on them. I think its due to an influx of newbs and the new patch/ 50% offer. Most of the time its pretty good on H|H tbh.

Didn't get a game yesterday, but as previously mentioned I left myself idling all day and evening. I think I was in game 15 hours, in that time I managed to unlock a load of duplicate stuff and get 2 bottles of Jarate!

That means it is: Razorback, Huntsman and hats left to go.

Got it idling again today because I can't play until friday night :(

Yes because this is quake 3 and the leader board is all that matters.....
This.

The "points = king" attitude is the reason I hate most career snipers, the ones completely oblivious to their own intel leaving through the front door. MUST. FINISH. SNIPER. DUEL!

Most servers i played on in TFC either limited snipers to 1 per team or outright banned them. Tbh it was far more fun, especially when they were banned. There is no fun in getting headshotted as soon as you walk out of the door. It's very rare that you find a sniper that has the teams best interests in mind, they always seem more obsessed with watching the enemy sniper nest so nobody kills them. It is because of this that i make a point of rocket jumping up to a sniper balcony whenever i can and laying down some spade based ownage.

I tend to get drawn into sniper battles, but normally, I will sit crouched on the balcony behind the tin wall aiming down onto the bridge.

If your reaction times are good, you can pick enemies off as they cross without being exposed to enemy snipers.

Sure, it's camping but whatelse do you expect from a sniper?

Well at least that's more in tune with the objectives of the team (by that i mean it's a form of defence). It's just, as i say, it's so boring, frustrating and, dare i say it, lame to be on the receiving end of it. To be killed by someone you can't even see when you want to get in there and cause a good old-fashioned ruckus just isn't what TF2 is about imo. In other games i totally accept snipers, i've just always felt team fortress should be about huge explosions and bullets flying all over the shop, the sniper is pretty much the opposite.

This is only my opinion and by no means am i slagging off anyone who plays snipers, i'm just explaining why i dislike their inclusion in TF2. I totally accept that i am effectively winging :p
