TF2 Sniper Update

I set a couple of servers to auto-join. When I was playing one of them I was suddenly loading up the other. I didn't think the game would do that to me. :o I won't be doing that again.

Just set a few to auto join, then when you join one just press escape and cancel the auto join on the rest of the servers.

how does exactly achievement_idle map works? I don't really understand seems for most of the achievement you have to kill stuff etc.. how can this be possible

doesn't get you achievements, just the unlocks

the new unlocks just ranomly appear for you now

25 hours over 4 day – no unlocks

idle overnight – 4 unlocks (1 new)

Was playing last night when suddenly, I found the Razorback :D. Now I don’t really play Sniper and I know the Razorback is not great but I still felt GREAT. I was actually delighted the moment I won it. yay, Valve doesn’t hate me after all. Still think the ‘system’ could be vastly improved (get unlocks for playing or healing or killing or capping or something, anything but being idle) but I’m willing to give it a chance . . .
as long as I get the Cloak & Dagger.

Ive played this for about 4 days total.

unlocking the weapons via achievements is lame, as some of them are really hard to do which gets fustrating then you loose interest... seriously they advertise this STUPID update all over the place about the sniper bow, but you cant even use it until you have unlocked everything which takes ages.. what a stupid idea..

The maps are so so as it gets boring doing the same thing over and over.

the achievement servers are lame and should all be deleted and banned.

Eh? For a moment i thought you were stuck in some kind of time loop from a year ago but you mentioned the sniper bow.

You know you dont have to do the achievements anymore, right?

When I tried running achievement_idle briefly it had a 30 min timer and the spawn point "hurt" the player, so how does it work? You just stand somewhere where you aren't going to be hurt and let the timer run down & map reload over and over?

just let it hurt you so you keep repsawning
it's so it doesn't mess up your 'longest life' time

left mine overnight because i'm desperate to get the bow, but all I had was about 3 bats, another kritz, and a few blutz :(

what would make more sense would be having a unlocks based on kills, heal points, teleports, assists....etc

IE-
Dying with 0 kills = 0.5% chance of unlock
1 - 1%
2 - 2.5%
3 - 4%

....etc

Adding in healing and other things to not shaft medics and engineers.

Runs of 3 kills arent that uncommon and should probably mean that most people should average 1 unlock per server rotation depending on ability. At least then you would feel you were achieving them.

Maybe I'm bitter because I still haven't 'found' anything despite playing god knows how many hours, but this whole new system just totally sucks. The whole thing is so completely random it just makes the whole point of playing to get the new items pointless. The old way of actually trying to get new items by earning achievements was so much more rewarding and satisfying. Now it feels like there is no point. Yet, I know I am in the minority here since everywhere it seems to have received a lot of praise.

Don't think your a minority at all.

Problem is, TF2 is a very casual game. Particularly compared to TFC was back in the day.

I only get to play an hour or so a day so for me I would have thought that the system benefit me, but in honesty it doesn't. It seems its more catered to those who can leave their machine on all night lol.

The random factor does even the playing field out though. But I agree it should be based on doing something. Mainly objective points. Give points for completing objectives the weight.

Sick of Fort2 turning into TDM because nobody goes for the flag.

People would still grind them out on achievment servers, ie murdering hundreds of bots, intel cases right next to each other, 1second cap points etc.

Because you only get 2 points for capping the flag, which is equivalent to getting 1 headshot as sniper. Reaaalllly fair valve.

Just got my 4th axtinguisher btw :D.

It's not about how many points you get (though topping the leaderboard is nice) it's about your team winning or losing. Unfortunately on 2Fort there'll be about a bazillion snipers and if they don't get you as you're running accross to the other side the gazillion sentries will and you'll have little to no hope of getting past them as nobody wants to be a medic.

With regards to the unlocks, I'm not doing too bad as, with only a few hours of playtime, I've only got the huntsman and the Ambassador left to get :D It is a stupid system though and it would be better to just give everyone the weapons straight off instead of randomly being assigned them.

Trying to get onto idle servers before work but it says your map differs from the serv (server), anyone know why ? Only doing it because I have 10 pyro weapons and no sniper weapons :D.

But it used to be 10 points for capping a flag in TFC and only 1 point for each kill. The result of this is people would strive to get that flag back to base whether it was for the greater good of their team or to get to the top of the leaderboard.

This way if people want to look 'leet' and be at the top of the leaderboard, they just go on a killing spree. Flags don't reward enough points in comparison to the effort required to cap them.

Oh and my 2 pence on the new weapon award scheme? Utter dross.

I miss the organised days of TFC, where everyone would take up a position on either offence or defence and knew to play as a team. Nowadays if i set up camp as a soldier at the bottom of the stairwell on 2fort the enemy just don't seem to know how to deal with it. Their minds seem to boggle at the thought of a soldier taking up a defensive position next to a resupply and kicking seven shades out of them then resupplying to keep health full.
