France to honour American involvement in D-day 65th anniversary... but...

On a side note, does this country honour other parts of the empire that fought and provided materials for WWII?

India eventually contributed 2.5m men and an enormous amount of materials relevant to the war. When growing up I heard nothing about this, neither was it even a footnote in our history lessons. :(

I think the people that don't understand this are the people that have never been to France.

Go to France & chat English & you will be told "I don't speak English" & left alone.
Attempt there language & they will be more helpful & sociable ;)

OK votre gouvernement est un bouquet de grenouilles bêtes
pas l'invitation de notre reine est une honte.

Who cares about the royal family anyways, they're a waste of tax money.

It isn't about the Queen's personal feelings, and whether you agree with the monarchy or not, for better or worse she is currently our head of state, thus to snub her is to snub our country.

No, to snub her is to snub the system, she may be the head of state but she doesn't really have any polotical power, thus a useless character.

maybe because the Queen turning up is the GREATEST honour of respect for many of the ww2 vets who are still alive today and would have been for the thousands that died. She resembles what all those Brits died for, even today.

i agree with Malc she should just turn up and its a none issue,

But we have our own rememberance days here in the UK that we all have 2mins silence for at 11 o'clock, and spend most of the weekend listening to services, and watching the progressions outside whitehall. Surely that rememberance day is far more important? How is this anniversary any more poignant than others? Thousands of people died throughout the war, as some of your families as well as some of mine - it has affected the WORLD, not just a few nations and certainly not just the UK and France. France was completely decimated, villages destroyed, lives turned upside down, priceless and sentimental treasures stolen, the French had to live in a occupied land losing pretty much everything they owned to the Nazis, including their pride, dignity, honour and had to serve them in restaurants, shops, brothels and had to try and make a living at the same time and try and live a "normal" life... France got it pretty bad, let us not forget please.

A lot more goes on in wars than on the battlefield.

The vets know that the queen thinks of them at the important times. How her not turning up to this day is going to affect them I know not. Do you think there are no vets from France or any other of the nations around the world that were involved who have a say and thoughts on such things? Why should it be all about the UK?

I think all this is truly a mountain out of a molehill which has just been propagated and propaganda'ed by a very low quality news paper and a lot of wind up merchants.

This may cause a huge diplomatic, multi-national fall out you understand? Can you live and stand by this decision? ;)

Good point, I don't want to be labelled a FLILTHY FRENCH SYMPATHISING MUSLIM IMMIGRANT COMMIE TRAITOR!!! by the Daily Mail:eek:
