Context is key, of course. My friends know exactly my type of humour, which can be extremely offensive and caustic to some. I certainly wouldn't through in a rape joke with someone I didn't know.
Rather than a bloody nose, my comments received the usual laughs, shaking heads and "...awww no....you didn't...." chuckles.
Anything's open for a laugh in the right context.

of course legal methods have to be pursued to the maximum but as we know the police service is not perfect. If that fails are you simply going to let your wife get raped by some weirdo?

dirtydog - yea I suppose I should lighten up. I just find it hard to joke about these things, and its diluting the thread for the OP to find the useful bits to gleam advice from.
Sorry if this seems like a keyboard warrior post but a similar thing happend to my wife, although not to the extent of the OP where rape was threatened.
She was being stalked to put it bluntly by an old school friend, following her home from work, folowing her on her lunch breaks even driving by our house at night. The guy was a proper loon to put it bluntly. The police did nothing as expected as he was not doing anything 'wrong'! Needless to say I was not going to continue to watch my wife living in fear and despite wanting to take matters into my own hands I persisted with the police until I was almost arrested. They did eventually take notice and warned the guy concerned.
Don't be tempted to take the law into your own hands unless it is becomming much more than a threat and it's a very last resort and even then you must act in self defence either of yourself or your wife. Persist with legal channels as far as you possibly can.
My sympathies are with you and your wife as it is unbearable living in fear.

Absolutely, because if everyone ran around acting like vigilantes we'd have dozens of those police tv shows. Oh we already do?
I know what you're getting at but I dont think I would have the need to go to the extremes that most the chest beaters in here claim.

A bit like buses, needing a taxi and most other things in life. Police hardly lead the field in not being there when you need them.
I have the utmost confidence in the police, but I keep being let down by them.
Recently, I have reported someone using their mobile phone while driving, they still do it and nothing has been done about it.
My finances parents live next to people who regularly use drugs inside their illegally constructed extension. Nothing has been done about this either.
A local policeman is regularly seen sinking pints in the local pub and driving home after. He drinks on average 3 - 5 pints.
