**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

Edit - you could well end up being right, without question - but until the club have actually confirmed it officially I will hope for better news later in the summer (:

I think he will end up being an insurance claim and dumped out the club, he doesnt exactly pull up any trees when he is fit if we are honest.

I dont blame Barry TBH he could be one of many signings this year and they could have a formidable team by the end of the summer. A couple of solid signings and a couple of stars.

But there's absolutely no guarantees at all. They could want to sign the top 10 players in the world (and have the money to do it), but that doesnt mean they'll actually sign.

Barry is a solid player. and city need a solid backbone for thier team because right now they are a bunch of hit n miss players. Barry is a smart signing, solid centre midfielder who can police that area game in game out.

that said, i didn't see that coming at all haha. good for liverpool fans, they didn't need him, alonso showed this year that he is pure class.

I hope barry doesn't try to pass this move off for footballing reasons. Villa are in a better position to get nearer to the top four than city IMO.

Barry is a fantastic buy for City. After Liverpool was intrested in him, he was always set to leave Villa. It does seem a sideways move from his point of view, thinking about the slim possibility of winning trohpys. No doubt he will now be on a huge wage.

Reading the comments about Barry and Arsenal. I cant see why Arsenal have never been intrested before. I could see him fitting into the team nicely and surely its a lot better than being at City. First off, a chance to play in the Champions League and be a first team starter.

He would have brought experience to the Arsenal team. He knows the English game inside and out, he is what Arsenal are looking for right now.

Oh well, City have got a player that will bring stability to the team. Him and Ireland will be a solid platform to build on.

Feels strange talking about City :p

£$£$

As a Villa fan i'm glad Barry is gone, twelve million is a bonus as well. It's surprising that "Villa's best player" can so so ****ing little at times.

I don't see why Hughes bought him tbh. Ireland, Bridge and Jong are far better than barry in their respective positions.

Now hopefully Villa will splash on a proper DM and a half decent centreback. But, O'Neil being O'neil will probably move Milner to CB, put Reo-Coker in as a striker and buy a right back to play leftback.

I don't see Villa's defence being anywhere as near as good as the first half of this season

Villa's defence is a total joke.

or year before, you're also losing out on a consistant goal scorer whose won them quite a lot of games.

haha Barry has scored once from open play this season.

Care to clarify? half the players at City are unhappy.. the only reason is that he's gone for the money.. simple.

I'd say as another point that MO'N now really needs to do some spending himself.. not only to replace Barry but to sort Villas defence out after Laursens retirements and Boumas on going problem.

Speculation?

It's not the greatest, is it. Luke Young isn't good enough, Knight's average at best, Shorey's not brilliant, Cuéllar wasn't bad but often looked lost.

We need to invest in this area and heavily. Barry going to City is disappointing but considering he had a year left to run, £12m is bloody good for us. You can quote me on this, but I guarantee O'Neill does NOT spend that £12m on one player to replace him. He'll buy someone for £3m just to fill the gap.

Villa demonstrated that they are unable to really challenge for the top 4 and they don't have the budget to change that.

Man City on the other hand do...
For a start Villa were only 2nd to City in terms of how much they spent last season. And secondly, surely last season just goes to show that no matter how much money you spend, it's not certain that City will do any better:

Last season: Villa 60 points, City 55 points.
This season, after both sides spent £m's: Villa 62 points, City 50 points

We don't have the budget to change it?

Nonsense, my friend. Money we have, O'Neill just doesn't spend £30m on one player.

Kaka to Real Madrid!!?!?!:eek: <-- according to SSN.. 65m euros apparently.

I think Luke Young has been Villa's best defender this season. I don't know about Cuellar he seems hit and miss, Knight is solid for 85 minutes then does something ****ing stupid and acts like a stonned clown for the next 5-10 minutes and Shorey is OK until he has to actually defend.

Villa need to improve their centre midfield and defence. Barry's exit is a blessing in regards to the former. I can't begin to fathom what MON has up his sleeve for the latter. Heskey to CB probably.

Robiniho must be on top of the world right now, turning down other opportunities to sign for such a massive club, and play among such great names as Craig Bellamy and Gareth Barry.
