**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

it was indeed a silly statement to say Villa didnt challenge for top 4. take out the winless run towards the end, take out the masses of bad luck, and we'd easily be knocking on the champions league door to be honest.

he who has oil, wins!

Not as silly as your statement.

If you take out the winless runs, the masses of bad luck then most teams would be challenging for 4th place or higher.

Debatable. I can't remember one single decent game Carrick and Hargreaves had when playing together. The best we saw of Hargreaves was when he played alongside Anderson, part of a three man midfield or on the right.

Moscow? To say the least

Indeed, I think Ando, Carrick and Hargreaves is pretty much our ideal midfield 3 at the moment.

Utd would go ALONG way in all comps with those three always fit and available

I love how there are no rumours of Deadly Diego Forlan. He had an unlucky spell with Manu, but since he went to La Liga he's been one of the best strikers around. If Perez had any sense he'd save the Kaka money, buy Forlan and spend the rest on a new defense.

Funnily enough I remember Rafa Benitez saying he was an admirer of Forlan during the january transfer window. Havent heard anything since about that though.

It's pretty appalling that someone as bad as Anderson can be considered part of the strongest midfield the English champions can put out.

Funnily enough I remember Rafa Benitez saying he was an admirer of Forlan during the january transfer window. Havent heard anything since about that though.

Might be a decent back up to Torres, although there are still question marks about how well he'd play in the prem. I'd like to say that he's matured enough to be a success, but who knows. Either way, he's a class player with two great feet and it seems like he can score from anywhere.

Manchester City believe they are close to the £20m signing of Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o.

Don't believe he'll go, but that's a bargain...

Well, no. Hargreaves played as part of a three man midfield that night with Scholes and Carrick.

sorry when you posted the below you didnt state ONLY those two

Debatable. I can't remember one single decent game Carrick and Hargreaves had when playing together. .

They DID play together in moscow - albeit with Scholes as well

But as Sham said - with only a 1/2 season of games (and not all of those starts) due to his knees, its not surprising really

If OH was able to get a decent run of games he would easily show how good a player he is capable of being.

Anderson may not have showed his worth in the CL final (very few did in a Utd shirt) but at his peak (like the arsenal CL games) he can be brilliant - I would agree he needs consistancy though for sure

Yes and I said he'd played well as part of a three. My point was he hasn't played well with Carrick as part of a two man midfield.

Just read my original post it's not that difficult to understand :/

Pretty sure there are rumours that Barca want him

Ive read it several times - you say that Carrick and OH cant play together and you say OH plays best as part of a midfield three with Anderson

Two completely seperate sentences - you never initially stated that you liked Carrick and OH playing as part of the three man midfield!!!

So try not to be so patronising - Im not misunderstanding anything

Pretty sure there are rumours that Barca want him

There are always rumours about Barca and Forlan, but they never come to anything. I think he's a bit too old now for them to see him as a long term first team player even if Eto'o or Henry leaves. I think it's more likely that they'll go for a support striker or winger like David Silva.

Anyone know what that Vermaelen is like? Cant remember seeing him play. Not going to be another cygan is it?

Tuncay would be an excellent addition to the Liverpool squad, can play anywhere across the front line or in midfield

From what I can tell he's not worth £10m, he's only 23 (not the age Arsenal need to be looking for) and he's also quite small. I think that for £10m there are better players out there. Apparently he has potential to be good though, he's just not the answer this summer.

I personally think Carvahlo is the answer, in my eyes he was the best defender in the world over the last few seasons (barring last year) and if Gallas stays it could be even better. If he could stay fit he has 2 more great seasons imo. Could get him for very cheap too probably.
