Istanbul - TURKEY Grand Prix 2009 - Race 7/17

And to think most of you reckon Bernie is the real problem.....*sigh*

hey are both horrible gits. Max is worse though. they might of done good decades ago. But they are so past their use by dates. They should step down from active duty and just watch the money roll in.

I worked with Epsilon Euskadi last year, they have some mega facilities.

yea theres a rather hefty interview with the guy in charge of epsilon and he says he has secured 65million which he makes it sound like would be for the first year only with enough funds for 4 seasons in total from sponsors.

he said he has the wind tunnel and all the rest of it already and the team would build there own chasis unlike some of the other newer teams that want to enter/reenter F1 so i would be shocked if they got turned down as they are pretty much setup anyway.

Bit of Thursday morning news - unfortunately still not about any actual racing!!

There could be a different look to the field in 2010
Even if the nine rebel FOTA teams do not race in Formula One next year, there are already more than enough valid 2010 entries to potentially fill the grid.

It has emerged that yet more teams have lodged paperwork to abide the announced budget cap rules: Epsilon Euskadi and N. Technology, whose applications swell the potential entry list to ten teams and 20 cars.

Additionally, it is rumoured that junior motor racing outfits Carlin and Manor Motorsport might also have thrown their hats into the 2010 ring, as may have a so far unannounced Italian team.

Alongside current team Williams, already officially signed up with the FIA for 2010 are Prodrive, Lola, USF1, Superfund, March, Campos, Litespeed and Brabham.

Spanish prototype Le Mans sports car team Epsilon Euskadi's Joan Villadelprat confirmed to the Diario AS newspaper on Wednesday that he lodged the 2010 entry one week ago.

"I can say that we have our future assured for at least four years," he said, insisting that even if the budget cap figure increases, the team will remain ready to compete.

Meanwhile, in a statement to the media, MSC Organisation Ltd said it submitted its entry paperwork on 23 May - the day after the one-week window for official applications opened.

While the FIA would despair at the departure of grandee teams like Ferrari, McLaren, and even current championship favourites Brawn, the bustle of the current 2010 entry list has emboldened Max Mosley's stance in the FOTA stand-off.

"I think we are looking quite good," the FIA President said when asked about the teams already entered for next season.

Turning his attention to the existing FOTA teams, he told Switzerland's Motorsport Aktuell: "What I would say to them is that if they want to write the rules, they should organise their own championship."

There are a lot more teams trying to enter than I thought would. I just hope F1 doesn't turn into some mickey mouse championship with random teams who don't know what they are doing.

Maybe this IS the end of F1 as we know it.

If there are enough teams already to fill the grid it doesnt look good for the existing teams at all (apart from Williams of course)

Mind you just because there are enough new teams to fill the grid - it doesnt mean BE believes them all to be "valid" entires / capable of actually producing a viable car etc, we wont know that until next week or so (closing date maybe the 11st or so - but when does BE actually have to publically say yes, that could be weeks /months away surely?)

I think the fact that this many signed up this quickly shows that it didn't need a budget cap this low to fill the grid...
I really hope we don't loose some of the established teams, loosing Mclaren, RedBull and Brawn would be a real shame.

Yup the new teams signed up before the deadline, but kept it out of the eyes of the media while they finalised sponsorship deals etc.

James Allen has confirmed on his Blog that "Brabham" have entered 2010 using the remnants of the Super Aguri team.

He makes mention that the team grid is now potentially full without the FOTA teams and could easily go ahead next year without them however several of the new teams are expected to fail due dilligence and therefore not have their entries accepted.

Another interesting point he makes is that only three teams really make the backbone of Formula One - Ferrari, Williams and McLaren. Other teams have come and gone over the years but these guys have always stayed and it would likely be in McLarens interest to stay with the current F1 series - albeit with a negotiated improvement to their package.

We could very easily be about to see Formula One get back to the 70's and 80's racing era when the big manufacturers weren't in the series and -in James Allens own words - F1 hadn't be "Corporatised" by them.

Interesting times ahead methinks, I for one would love to see all the FOTA teams (except Ferrari) kicked out and their places given to new teams who want to join for the racing - rather than a marketing exercise to sell more road cars....

Even Brawn? Red Bull are in it for marketing (and give a good image/vibe to F1) their brand but not cars.. what about them? And Force India?

I think you can read between the lines of what I actually posted to realise that the likes of Brawn and Force India who don't have a Car or Drink to promote and are here to race are clearly the kind of team I would like to stay - and win races.

Yeh I suppose Ferrari aren't doing it to push there cars at all whilst teams like Force India, Redbull, STR and Brawn are.... -.-

Whilst I wouldn't miss some of the FOTA teams, I really want to see Brawn, Mclaren, Ferrari and RedBull stick around.

I know, I was trying to make the point that there are quite a few non-manufacturer teams already :)

Agreed. However the balance of power within the teams clearly lies with the "marketing" teams rather than the "racing" teams. This is something I would like to see addressed.

As an interesting exercise, would anyone like to predict the team line up for next year ahead of the FIA announcement? :D

I believe the FIA won't back down and FOTA will become split, with most of the teams opting to stay in F1 - if Ferrari don't go, none of them will - they are looking to Ferrari for leadership in this issue.

My prediction is this:

Ferrari - contractually tied in (supposedly)
McLaren - have made no real noise about moving
Williams - signed unconditionally
Brawn - likely incumbent champions therefore unlikely to move
Red Bull - Apparently their boss is very close to Max
Torro Rosso - RB junior will stay with RB senior
Force India - no reason to move
Prodrive - signed unconditionally and have experience from BAR days
Brabham - signed unconditionally
Litespeed - signed unconditionally and apparently have Mike Gascoigne on board

I can see two teams making a break for it no matter what - Toyota and Renault, both of whom are having problems with results and sponsors and it would give them a way to back out of the sport "gracefully" as they may have been planning to so for some time.

I could be wrong! What do you think?

Ive got to stop agreeing to go to my GF's on weekends whan a race is on. Guess this will be another one I have to watch on iPlayer...

Wait until you live with one and have a daughter - 2 against 1

You become intimate with the available recording devices and develop an ability to avoid all news coverage until they are both asleep. Then its couple of beers, big bag of crisps and fall asleep just after Martin does he walk :)
