**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

The reason we are seeing these massive fees is exchange rates.

£38m is around 43.5m Euros @ 1.15 euro/pound.

This time a year ago

£29m would have been 43.5m Euros @ around 1.50 euro/pound

Still silly money but not quite as daft, £25m for a top young striker is a good risk tbh. Tevez is valued around that price, similar for Torres, Robhino went for £32m, £30m for Berbatov. Ok, they are established strikers but Ronaldo was only £12m and is worth four times that amount now.

Personally I still wouldnt spend £29m on a 19 year old. Sure, Ronaldo was £12m and is now worth 4 times that...but to put that into perspective, how many young players were £12m and didnt fulfill their potential and end up being worth 4 times that?

I think generally speaking, I wouldnt go higher than £20m on a 19 year old. Particularly if the 19 year old in question had no experience in the league I was in. I think £20m is more than sufficient as a transfer fee, but that would require some kind of sensible attitude towards transfers in football rather than the lets see who can shake the largest wad of money in the air attitude.

Im already tired with all these transfer rumours. :(

I'm not, I like it. Hoping it gets me through the seasons break without a craving feeling for premiership football. Hoping we bag Silva and Tevez for under £45million :)

PS - Anymore Tuncay rumours and i'll vomit, how can they possibly thing we would be interested in him.

Even if the £29mill bid was for the hottest talent in Europe?

Yup, especially considering that almost every month, and depending upon which magazine/tv show/radio station/website you are going by the "hottest talent in europe" chops and changes.

How about a player that has played 86 games for inter/Milan and scored 40 goals already? That is a lot of goals for a 19 year old

Yes, it is a lot of goals. Certainly talented I would say. Not quite as good as Dirk Kuyts 83 goals in 122 games for Feyenoord, but then again he was a few years older and not such a good league.

Dont get me wrong, the kids most definately talented. Whether that talent blossoms, and whether that talent translates as well to the EPL are different questions...and for me, £20 million quid is more than enough dosh. Thats just me though.

Apparently Arsenal have signed a defender! But it's textbook Arsene to hear nothing and then see somebody get signed out of the blue, it's the only way to do it if you have no money I suppose, if people are talking about it in the press all the time the price just rises.

Who have they signed and where did you get the info? Is it a 16 year old with loads of potential by any chance? :D

That would make me sex wee, can't really think of another player who could do the job better (who's available). Perfect buy. Won't happen :(.

Only £12m for one of the best defensive midfielders of last season? That said, he'd be perfect for Arsenal. He's worth at least £20m imho.

i agree, cant see arsenal getting him for 12m. Arsene just doesn't like to pay out for players, hes quite cheap like that and his strategy clearly isn't working. that said i think arsenal will be better next season just for the addition of Arshavin for the entire season. (proof lots of money spent well does bring you quality)

That said, Arshavin was worth more than we paid, but Arshavin wanted out and something tells me Toure doesn't .. Might be that CL win.
