**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

SSN news ticker saying there's been bids in excess of 16m from United and RM for Valencia. Not sure what to think of it myself, another winger would be handy but Fergie will only end up playing Rooney there for the big games.

Rooney should play up front and up front only, he is the best player at the club and should be played in his proper position, not this stupid ass left wing nonsense.

Its like saying Nani isnt good enough to play, he is very right footed, and they stick him put on the left, the fact is he can cross a ball on the run from the right, take half decent corners and beat a player, but they stick him on the left.
I dont see how buying Valencia is going to make any difference, if Ronaldo doesnt go, Valencia is only going to get stuck out wide left till we decide that doesnt work then Rooney will get shoved out there.

I dont remember us ever sticking Beckham out wide left.

Yeh. I mean we only won the league after selling him....

Quality player but it was definitely time for him to move on. He wasn't interested once Saha started giving him a bit of competition.

Supposedly Hull have had a £6m bid accepted by Man Utd for Campbell

thats a pretty decent price IF true

IF Ronny doesnt go he WILL get a much more central roll next season - its been going that way for a while and Nani just doenst cut it, admittedly all of his chances in this last season where on the wrong side, but I still dont think he is the quality needed for a starter for certain, and not even sure for a squad player.

Valencia would be a great addition to the first team and IF the press are to be believed then He prefers Man Utd to RM due to having a family settled in the area

We won the league with him as well??

It was more to do with the non service from Ronaldo, as we were playing him as a standard right winger and he just cant deliver.

It was all the commentators could talk about at the time, they would show clip after clip of RVN steaming into the box, making runs, looking for the final pass, and Ronaldo was just completely unpredictable and its no wonder he fell out with both Ronaldo and Ferguson over it.
Now we have a situation we dont have anybody who can cross, but thats okay, because we have nobody in the box either.

As for Alan Smith, he was very unlucky with United, he should have been given a lifetime contract simply for cutting Robbie Savage in half after he clattered Rooney away at Blackburn.
Theres a lot of fans never wanted him go, and would have him back, not just me.

Yes, and then what followed was three years of inadequacy all-round, bar the odd good performance against Arsenal here and there.

Walking off the pitch like a spoilt kid when your team has won their first trophy in a few years is sickening. It was time for him to go.

And who was playing around him?

A **** weak midfield, half a defence and a crap goal keeper.

So its all his fault.

Just another player that was miss managed to our disadvantage.

Actually I just realised Ronaldo last season was similar to RvN during that season you mentioned - neither worked that hard for the team and tracked back , they just stood up front with their hands on their hips looking pouty

It WAS time for RvN to go then ............

It was, and we got decent money for him.

But at £1.25m he'd be pretty decent value for a 32 year-old that never relied on pace to net bag-fulls of goals. We'd just need someone that was willing to pass him the ball. Rooney played well with him (the goal against Charlton is still my fav from the past few years), but Ronaldo hardly passes to his current team-mates once he gets within shooting distance, nevermind someone that wanted to take his head off a few years ago.

That'll be sale of the century if United get anywhere near that amount for him :o

Why may I ask?

He scored shed loads of goals for Hull in the Championship and 2 of his 3 goals this season came against Liverpool. Given a run of games in Premiership I think he could easily hit between 8-10 goals for a club like Hull

1127 BST: Arsenal have secured a 13m euro (£11.4m) deal for Ajax captain Thomas Vermaelen, according to reports in his native Belgium.
