**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

Kaka is a fantastic player, but no way is he on the same level that Zidane was when they bought him. Not worth it, though I suppose "worth it" is a very relative thing.

If they grab some defenders and clear out the chaff, they could be a formidable team again.

Mascherano to Barcelona?

Javier Mascherano's agent has made it clear that the Liverpool midfielder would jump at the chance to join Barcelona.

Mascherano has been linked with a move to the European champions, and agent Walter Tamer claims his client would be very keen.

"If a club like Barcelona want to bring you into their ranks after having completed such a brilliant season and having won everything, obviously as a player, you are going to say, 'Yes, I want to play there,'" he told RAC-1 programme 'Tu Diras'.

"It is an honour for Javier that a club like Barca pay such close attention to him, especially after the incredible season they had. I believe that a transfer would be feasible. If Barca really want him, he will sign for them.

"He would have a very easy job at Barca. Sometimes we talk and joke that the only thing he has to do is run, rob the ball, and pass it on to all the superstars in front of him."

But Tamer does admit that the move could be made more difficult if Liverpool agree to sell Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid.

"What if Xabi Alonso also leaves? Surely, Rafael Benitez would not want to have both his central midfielders go. It will be difficult, although Xabi's future does not depend on Mascherano and vice-versa.

"The transaction would certainly happen, but the first to leave will have more options."

What the hell is going on at Liverpool at the moment! :(

We really cant afford to lose Alonso or Mascherano, they are both key players to the squad. Especially if Gerrard is playing a more advanced forward position.

Liverpool just dont seem to have the spending power to compete at all in the transfer market at the moment. The Americans really need to call it a day now and let DIC take the club over. The key to Liverpools finacial future is to get the new stadium built, and I just cant see that happening with the Americans in charge.

Could be a painful summer for Liverpool if both are allowed (or force) transfers

I know Beni has already said he wont sell Xabi - but how many times do you get a chance to play in a team with Kaka etc etc or Xavi / Iniesta

Will be interesting to see how it pans out

That project is still on permanent hold at the moment isnt it?

As far as I know yes, the Americans cant fund it at the moment, and there are still serious doubts/concerns if they will be able to re-finance there outstanding debt/loan agreement before there current deadline.

They havent really done a huge lot for the club since arriving, sure theyve backed Rafa in the transfer market at times(Torres etc). But they are just not right for the club!

Would hate to see Villa end up at Chelsea, who I think are the other team Villa is being linked to. a lot of people are saying though that Villa wouldnt suit the Premiership style of play etc though, otherwise I would love to see him partner Torres up front at Liverpool!

Liverpool's American owners are charging the club a fortune for expenses, it has been revealed.

The Guardian says Liverpool are being made to pay almost £2m to cover the travel, legal and other personal expenses of the club's owners, Tom Hicks and George Gillett. The accounts published for the owners' holding company, Kop Football, for the year to 31 July 2008, show that Hicks charged £192,000 for "third party consulting, travel and other expenses," while Gillett charged £129,000 for "reimbursable travel, legal, personnel and other expenses".

The two men charged significant amounts of money for the same expenses, incurred by themselves personally "and affiliated companies", during the previous seven-month accounting period, which ran from 18 December 2006 to 31 July 2007, too. Hicks charged Kop £198,000, while Gillett charged £375,000.

The pair also claimed almost £1m for what are described in the accounts as "transaction-related expenses". Hicks and affiliated companies charged Kop £133,000 in this category, while Gillett's figure was much higher: £823,000. The total charged to Kop in expenses, for the owners and their affiliated companies, in 18 months from their takeover in early February 2007 to the accounts' end date of 31 July 2008, was £1.85m.

Really wise these two would just **** off now!

Villa to Real Madrid, Kaka to Real Madrid...

Van Nist to Spurs...

=O

Get back from my holiday and this is what greets me =O

Sell Masch and Alonso and you'd have the funds!

Why would we want to sell either of those two though!? Also, what gets me is the fact that Alonso is only being priced at around £25mill. Surely hes worth way more than that anyway.

Personally I think 25 million is more than enough for a player like Alonso

How is he worth more than £25million :/? I'd argue he isn't worth much more than £15m

Exactly!

Barry has gone to City for 12 million (ok Alonso is better than him), we signed Carrick for 18 million (ok that was inflated due to him being English but he's been worth it), Mascherano cost Liverpool around 18 million didn't he? I'd say anything around the 18/19 million mark would be a reasonable price for Alonso

I'm not saying you would and I'd think selling either of them would be a big mistake. But key players' agents stirring is the last thing you need when you're trying to firm up the squad for a real push on the title.

The difference is that clubs don't have the £25m to spend on a player like Alonso. Don't get me wrong, he's a very good player but for £25m I would expect him to be banging in 15+ goals a year and weighing in with a lot of assists also. Maybea few years ago a player like Alonso would have gone for that fee but I can't see it in the current economic climate.

Sounds like they should get a job with our governemt, they would fit in nicely ;)

oh my god, i almost choked on my brew...

did you just insinuate that Carrick was worth £18million?

true in the face of an £18 million Hargreaves, then relatively we have got more milage out of him...but...seriously? 18millions worth of talent inside Carrick? Never in a million years. He can look half decent when playing against 2nd rate opposition, when not under pressure, when he can take his usual 30minutes to turn with the ball - or instantly pass it straight back the way it came.

Thats what we spent 18million on.. a 3 yard return passer.. or someone who, in football manager terms, likes to "dwell on the ball"....i watched him get ripped to shreds by decent midfielders of Barcelona - as Carrick basically gifted Barca their first goal...through...dwelling on the ball... then proceed to have an absolute shocker, failing to make any decent tackles and mostly booting the ball off the pitch.

If thats what 18million buys, i must be worth at least 25 myself.
