**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

Thing is, Alonso is probably worth 'only' £20mil if he was for sale. The Club doesn't want to sell him, hence the extra few mil required to prise him away....

Not to mention Real paying Pompey £20m for Diarra in January. Basing Alonso's value on what they spent on him then i'd be seriously disappointed with anything under £25m.

Wow great way to prove he wasn't worth the money.... by picking out one bad game

Since signing Carrick we've won 3 league title, reached an FA Cup final, won the Champions League and reached another final not to mention the semi's in his first season

Since Carrick's signing we've had nothing but success so yes he's more than paid back the 18 million

yea well, i only use that game because it is probably the most vivid in peoples minds, being the last that he played of the season?

Since we signed carrick, yes its true we have won some titles...did we not win any titles previously? i am not saying that carrick has not contributed but lets be frank, he's no fat frank. he's no Gerrard, he's not even a worthy scholes replacement.

but i guess fergie does typically overspend on underperforming players.

I can't believe the amount of success Fergie brings, the amount of talent he finds...

Yet you all still moan and groan, what more do you want?

.

Would help if you actually tried to compare him to similar types of players - neither Gerrard or Lampard work in the same area of the pitch that Carrick does or Scholes in his hayday

Why blame one person for Rome - there where 11 players out there (well actually 14 inc subs) and only about 3 or 4 actually put in any kind of performance , after a brilliant season even Vidic was pretty poor

I dont think ONE person in the Utd side played anywhere near their peak, so stop blaming one person

yet he managed to lead us to titles both before and after carrick. weird that.

Rumour has it that Fulham bid for Fabian Delph, and after that swiss bloke Barnetta.

Just popped up:

Fulham are set to offer midfield anchorman Sekou Baradji a two-year deal, according to reports in France and Portugal.

...was he any good? lol

Latest from Spurs seems to be:

Pav is off
Bent is off
Zokora is off.

RVN is in (poss)
Maxi Rodriguez is in (poss)
Tuncay is in (poss)

I don't believe any of the incomings though.

Tuncay? Interesting, I've always rated him considering he plays for an awful team.

Can't see you getting Rodriguez :p

Please tell me that RVN isn't Van Nistelrooy?! :D

I swear Maxi Rodriguez joins spurs every summer :p

Tuncay could happen though, he seems like a Arry Redknapp kind of player.

Ruud aint ever going to happen!

Please explain then, what area of the pitch does Carrick "work" in? Imo he is meant to be a link between the defence, the rest of the midfield, and ultimately then the forwards.

What he actually does is recieve the ball from a Centerback, per se', and then instead of distributing the ball, or making a play, he will usually pass it straight back, putting a reliance then on Vidic/Ferdinand to make the 30-40 yard pass, which usually ends up aimlessly being punted..?

His lack of tackle/bite/workrate in this position really stands out. As it did in the final. Like i said, if he's playign 2nd rate opposition who will give him forever on the ball, (like we give to opposing teams in their half), then yes he can do something decent, every so often...

Tactically i blame Fergie for the Rome distaster, terrible squad selection/tactics. Vidic and Rio were also fairly disasterous, how many teams did they leave a man unmarked? but thats what happens when you have John O'Shea mincing about deciding whether to stick on the inside inside or actually mark a man on the wing?

tell me how does the smallest player on the pitch score a cracking header when Rio and O'Shea (both 6ft+) are stood either side of him?!

to me that summed up our night, clueless.

:/ Over board a bit, Messi scored because Barcelona had been making Utd chase shadows all night and late on in the game where Utd were visibly knackered (heat, too many games this season and playing Barcelona ..) Messi got a few steps of room and Xavi delivered what has to be one of the most effortlessly perfect balls I've ever seen to Messi, that didn't make Ferdinand clueless, he knew he was wrong, he had just been twisted out of position by a very special attacking team.

I bet you can count on 1 hand how many times Vidic and Ferdinand have been made to look poor this season, I could tell you about 300 from Toure/Silvestre/Gallas, but you don't see us complaining all the time, Man Utd fans have it too good!

You know this is arguably the biggest **** take so far in this saga...
Florentino Perez has claimed he will do "everything possible" to lure Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid, but has ruled out a move for Xabi Alonso.

Returning president Perez has already made one stunning signing with the £59million capture of Brazil international Kaka from AC Milan.

And the Santiago Bernabeu supremo is keen to revive his 'galacticos' transfer policy from his previous stint, which saw the likes of Luis Figo, Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldo and David Beckham brought in.

World Player of the Year Ronaldo has been a long-term target for the Spanish giants, although Manchester United have always vigorously resisted any advances.

But Perez does not appear deterred and he told Onda Cero and Radio Marca: "I will do everything possible to get Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid.

"Kaka is (just) the first signing.

"The only thing I have done is ensure we follow the path Santiago Bernabeu marked out for us; (signing) the best players in the world (Alfredo Di Stefano), the best in Spain (Amancio) and, with them, the best from the youth set-up (Raul)."

Perez appeared to pour cold water on reports Liverpool's Spain midfielder Alonso could be heading to the Bernabeu.

"He is a great player but he also plays in a big team and I haven't heard any news that they plan to sell him," said the Madrid president.

"It's obvious (Liverpool manager Rafa) Benitez is counting on keeping him. That's normal, he's a good player and it wouldn't be easy to replace him."

Nevertheless, it is expected to be a summer of change at Madrid with nine players seemingly on their way out of the club.

"(The squad) has 28 players. We can bring in six new and only register 25," he said.

And where exactly have we released any indication that we're willing to sell Ronaldo?
