**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

£80 million + whatever our transfer budget was, allows us to almost completely rebuild the team and replace/strengthen where we are so clearly weak.

We can now hunt down a powerhouse midfielder and wave goodbye to Hargreaves and his dodgy knees, good as he is, he cant play if he is on crutches, we can get a decent right back, cover for Evra, someone decent to play alongside Rooney. And of course, a right winger.
Him going, if the money is used wisely, could make us far better than with him at the club.

Yaya Toure? Seems a good choice for me, he'll probably never leave Barcelona but we can try.

When i was reading some of the Masch to Barca rumours a lot pointed to the fact that Toure wasn't happy at Barca due to him being on significantly less money than the rest of the first team.

Not a chance he would come over here.

Didn't you guys read the press from his agent last week? It's more than possible he'll be moving from Barca, or it was a ploy for more wages, hard to tell when an agent is being honest, usually never.

manyoo now need to replace Giggs, Scholes, Anderson, Nani, obviously Ronaldo, Tevez if they don't sign him, and a long-term right back and keeper.

How far does £80m go in today's climate?

Not that far.

Yeah but that's only if they want the perfect team, I suppose they'll need it to beat Barca though.

Not to mention that by selling Ronaldo for £80m, they've just inflated the price of every other top flight player, regardless of whether united are in for them or not.

The price of players was already high due to man city and the kaka deal. A lot of teams in for the same players and it's going to be an expensive summer by the looks of it.

*Edit* Ooo my 1000th post

I can't believe people are saying that for Man United to challenge the best of England and Europe, then we need all of these players.

So just because of Ronaldo going it makes the team ****?
We can't challenge the best of England and Europe anymore?

Sure.....

It was reported alongside one of the many articles today re Ronaldo that Toure has refused a contract extension recently (one of the many articles about who we should buy)

Would be a good addition Im sure, but I personally havent seen him play that much (and Barca might ask for a small mint even for a squad player)

If you mean Giggs the winger - then yes he needs replacing fast (and faster than Tosic will be effective in the EPL), Valencia will hopefully replace Nani and Ronaldo (may not score anywhere as many as the latter, but will supply a lot more for others), Anderson doesnt need replacing - just needs more experience and better players around him, Scholes has already been replaced by a different kind of midfielder (Carrick),

So one winger, one hard central midfielder and replacement for Tevez (and maybe a keeper also depending on Foster)
should do

The likes of Scholes was perfect for 4-4-2 , but now Utd are so often more 4-3-3 , Anderson Carrick and Hargreaves/Toure kind of player would be perfect (especially if Anderson can start scoring)

Also worth considering is that we could probably raise £20m+ from sales , plus whatever we gained from the EPL success /CL run in tv revenue etc that went into the kitty, (not that SAF would ever buy that many players all at once - 2 maybe 3 max I would think) - edited because Utd are unlikely to get the full £80m straight away anyway

Mate on paper that sounds wonderful, but I seriously doubt we'll spend all £80m on transfers.

If our normal budget was ~£35m for players this year, who's to say that the board don't say, "You know what, you got £80m for that Ronaldo lad... just use that for your transfer budget."

Or, "You're budget was going to be £35m, we're going to use that £80m on our debts... your budget is still £35m"

Or, "You're budget was £35m, we're using £40m of the Ronaldo sale for our debts, your budget is now going to be £75m"

We just need to wait and see what happens and hope we get some good players from it now.

Its not a huge sum as I was getting at, 80million is a LOT right now this second, but if it means 20-30million less in the first year alone from no cups, less far into the champs league etc, then it starts to look like less and less, 3/4 years without a title and a champs league final, which is certainly possible without the biggest game winner at the club, and 80million will look like chump change.

Anyone else mentioned yet that, well, Beckhams not particularly old yet, still has his legs(same lack of pace he always had :p ), is looking for a club and suddenly we have a club with a possible open right wing spot? 1 + 1 = ?

But still think Man U fans have shot themselves in the foot, to date I've never seen anything of Ronaldo saying he WANTS to leave, just that at some point in the future he'd love to play for Real Madrid, the prolonged saga every year is media BS, like they do with multiple massive players. Fans convinced themselves he wanted to leave and started to hate him for something he never did.

Theres always the chance that this is simply Utd calling their bluff and putting an end to a summer of crap media storys, let Ronaldo get a real offer, give him a bigger contract themselves and see what happens. If he refuses the Real offer, the story is dead in the water and can't drag on. Frankly if the fans weren't all having a go at him all year it could have worked, especially with the crap year Real Madrid had, but after a year of abuse of Utd fans complaining he's had a poor year and wants out.

Thing is, utd really do need to start replacing the old players and the not good enough ones, one truly great player, and a few fantastic players are making up for some pretty big gaps in the team to be honest.

he scored what, 41/42 goals in the season they actually won the league and the champs league. Yes, another player can also score goals, but there isn't a player out there you can buy to put in that position who would also score 42 goals, theres very very few that would score 15 in a season, let alone 20+, and that wasn't enough this year. if you don't think a team will miss a player who will score 42 goals, you're off your rocker.

How many goals did he score last year?

26 or something near that?

i disagree, i think right back is covered, Wes Brown, with Neville & Rafael da Silva, i can see Neville staying on 1 more season and i'm sure we will see over the next 12 months if Rafael da Silva has what it takes to make it.

I rate Anderson a lot, i think once he gets that goal :p he will go from strength to strength, i seriously think he will be a world class player in years to come.

nani - needs to go

schools & giggs need replacing - if not now then in 12 months

i believe ferige either intends to keep Tevez or has a replacement lined up. either way i think he has that sorted..

not sure on Ronaldo, if he wanted to go he wanted to go, no like for like replacement, but that does not mean a different player could not do a different job if you catch my drift

Where did I say that?

The fact that it's saying we won't challenge for things is absolutely madness.
