**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

at points this season and more so last, Ronaldo was practically our 1 man team. we'd be creating nothing, doing not much in particular, then ronny picks up the ball and goes off o one and scores a corker.

fact.

now he's gone we can start getting a team based startegy together, instead of relying upon the ROoney/Ronaldo combo to win us all of our games.

This involves buying quality wingers, not playing Park ont he wing simply because he can run. Involves balance on both flanks and on both wing backs...why have an attacking wingback on one side and a plank on another (Evra vs Oshea).

why did we play our winger up front on his own!!?! he cant win everything by himself!

You know all thats going to happen is we line up next year with Park and Nani on the wings, I really am expecting a completely underwhelming transfer window from Fergie.

Ferguson is not stupid :p

He knows you won't win the league with Park and Nani as starters and tbh, he has probably already got a replacement lined up for Ronaldo.

You won the league by 4 points.

Without Ronaldo you wouldn't have won it.

United without Ronaldo at the start of the season were 3rd best.

You without lampard would have been 5 or 6th

Take away any teams best player and they will always drop places, it depends on who he gets replaced by that counts

I think suggesting that Ronaldo is the main reason UTD won the the league is a bit silly. Whilst you might all think Chelsea and Liverpool have stronger squads I completely disagree. The trio of Ferdinand, Vidic and Carrick really is a strong central component (I say that even though I absolutely hate Man U). Up front a trio of Berbatov, Tevez and Rooney is a match for Liverpool or Chelsea. All UTD need to do is a get a world class winger and they're fine, and with 80 million to spend, they can get anyone they want.

Ronaldo, as gay as he obviously is, was a quality purchase for United, but I think Man U have been very smart to let him go for £80M after building up his price over the last 18 months

1/ Anderson and Mikel are both underrated, and I'm a Liverpool fan!

2/ All this talk of whether Man Utd can win the league without Ronaldo is irrelevant until we see a) who they bring in, and b) who Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal sell and buy.

Without Nicky Butt Newcastle wouldn't have been relegated.

Yes they would, they had Coloccini!!!

Regarding the whole Ronaldo thing, it was on the cards. He was going this summer, you could see that his heart wasn't in it for the best part of the season. We have done well to get the money we did for him :p

SAF, knew and pretty much everyone else at the club it would be difficult to keep Ronaldo intrested and some day soon he was going. Im pretty sure there is a replacement or replacements lined up to add to the squad. Definatly a starting place to fill Ronaldo's boots is up for grabs. Any world class player will be attracted to that, a chance to play for Man Utd week in, week out is something that doesn't come often.

I would love to see Ribery sign for Utd, but theres no doubt that Bayern will put a huge price on his head since all this money has been flying around.

Other transfers, Aguero to Chelsea for €50m+ and Villa to Real Madrid for €50m+?

Its going to be one very expensive summer for the European clubs!

Shame that he is going but it was always going to happen. People said that RvN goals could not be replaced, same was said the summer that Ince, Hughes & Kanchelskis went. I also remember as far back to when Robbo was rumoured to be going to AC Milan in the 80's

Is he replaceable ??? Well I don't think you can replace like for like as players like him come along every once in a while but you have to get the best of what is available and get them to gel together as a team.

I doubt Fergie will get the full £80m to spend but of the names mentioned upto now (Ribery & Valencia) I'm not overly impressed. I hope it works out for the lad in Madrid as he won pretty much everything he could at Utd and he should be allowed to try his hand elsewhere if that's what he truly want's. So he goes with no hard feelings. How he conducted himself last summer and a number of games this season means he will never truly go down as a fans favourite as the course of history plays out.

As for Madrid, I couldn't give a flying fig where the money comes from. Perez is hell bent on starting the Galactico era again. Lets not forget that it failed in spectacular fashion last time around. What's more laughable is that they are absolutely desperate for a defender or three yet they could end up spaffing the best part of £150m+ on Ronaldo, Kaka & Silva

Goodbye Christine, we wont miss you ;).
CR7 turned almost singlehandedly what was the most exciting league in the world into something resembling an olympic springboard diving event. When Utd failed to show him the door after the 2004 euro's & then inexplicably the premier league refs became obsessed with rewarding his fallover antics instead of yellow-carding them then it didn't take long before every prem team was suddenly diving all over the place, even our so-called 'english grit' players have joined in with the diving fun. Ronny even seemed to be responsible for an unwritten change in the rules in that contact was no longer needed and just the intent to knock him over was deemed a pen or free pop from 20yds.
Oh well Madrid are welcome to him, he'll fit in just fine in La Liga.

Good business for MU I think. £80m can get 3 good players and while asking prices will no doubt be hiked up a bit, it's not like MU don't normally get stiffed into paying over the odds anyway. I know some people like to talk about him being 'irreplaceable' but the fact is, football teams have 11 players, not 1. A team with 8 or 9 world class players is better than a team with 5 or 6 plus one superstar.

You can never guarantee that a player will stay at the top of their game for years to come, especially if they get injured.

As for Gilly's list of names, IMO if they replace Giggs, Scholes, Ronaldo and Tevez, then they won't need to replace Anderson and Nani just yet, they'll be relegated to cup matches and bench warming at best.

Well if that's all you saw in Ronaldo then seriously you need to watch football a lot closer. Of course every one saw his theatrics but lets be fair about he was an extraordinary talent that made the prem more entertaining. To suggest that he is responsible for influencing British players to dive is laughable

good job we have excellent backup in Giggs and Tosic;)

we didnt spend 12 million on Nani to not play him, so we might as well. id like a star winger however + Nani and then park+giggs asbackup but we shall see what the summer delivers.
