Spurs have to be careful about the amount of players coming in and out this summer. We've not had any consistency at the club for a number of years and it was the amount of comings and goings last summer which was mostly to blame for a poor start last season. Too many changes could see the same thing reoccur. I'm sure Harry knows what he is doing :/

It isn't yet:
1. 4+7 for 2010-2011
2. 5+6 for 2011-2012
3. 6+5 for 2012-2013
I think it's still being called illegal by the European Parliament.
The 6 + 5 rule is still a few years as there is a period of 4 + 7 progressing to 6 + 5. iirc the homegrown rule means that it's home grown talent eligible for the teams country of origin. I think what we will see is that plenty of players from abroad will be joining the big clubs with money at a younger age. When they have played for a team for 5 years they are eligible for citizenship.
As for Glen Johnson, I wouldn't entirely dismiss this transfer. If you look at Liverpool playing 2 defensive midfielders then any defensive problems Johnson has will be compensated for. A player like Johnson would compliment the Liverpool style of play. But again we are seeing 1 player brought in and 1 player potentially going in Arbeloa, so I am not seeing them adding to their strength in depth
Hitzlsperger? Not a bad player, experienced which is one benefit, I'm not sure he's the right player we need in CM but I won't complain about him signing.
Toure would be ideal, but it's unlikely he would leave Barca.
I hope he doesn't sign OK players on Silly money too:/ He might not sign anyone till he sells players too.

Hmm..Madrid have moved for what to them would be classed as two foreigners, maybe this will be what makes e.g. Villa another very expensive transfer.
Real can't really get that many more Spanish players they'd want of similar quality to foreigners or those that are good enough (most play for Barca). I'd doubt Platini et al will want to hinder their golden turd.
I don't think Arsenal will have a problem, most of our transfers in the last few years we've had to train up anyway. Cesc I think would be an example of somebody who'd be classed as homegrown.
What does this mean for Welsh/Scottish/N Irish players in English youth squads?

I care!!! I'm perfectly happy getting Johnson - he's a class player, and a little better than Arbeloa; however, even if we get £8mil for Arby, that's still a net spend of £10mil on Johnson, which I have 2 problems with:
First, that £10mil would be far better spent on a striker, winger or left back.
Second, Johnson isn't worth £10mil more than Arbeloa.
I honestly think that Johnson is one of the best right backs in the league, probably behind Bosingwa and Sagna, but unless we are getting Dani Alves I wouldn't spend £18mil on any right back in the world...we need to strengthen other areas of the team!
If Benitez comes out and sticks another £20mil on Silva or someone like that then fair enough; he's obviously having a big spending summer. But if, as seems very possible, this is our one big buy, it seems like an odd one.

Yes its 2010 for the start ( so not this season but next season) however teams need to start planning for it now really. At the moment, we cant even field 4.
The legality of it isnt an issue, FIFA already explained earlier this year how they can implement it within the EU and it be legal, so thats not a stumbling block.
The rule isnt about citizenship, the rule clearly states that for a player to be eligible they must be eligible to play for the national side of the host league. So for instance, Almunia would count as "english" because he is eligible to play for England. Whereas Reina would not count as "english" despite the length of time in the EPL because he is ineligible for the host nation.
Could explain , in part, why teams like Cardiff are currently trying to become officially part of the english FA instead of the welsh FA.

I'd be very suprised if a RB was our major signing, particularly with the need for a forward/lw. I'll reserve judgment until the end of the summer, but if Benitez thinks its good value and Capello obviously believes in the player then hopefully it will turn out to be a good signing.
Clearly; we get a transfer wrong a few times a season!
I guess one point is that he's only going to cost £11mil more than Dossena, and frankly my mum's worth £11mil more than Dossena, and she's right footed. From that point of view it's a bargain!!!

Hmmm..with the rule getting enforced an whatnot, maybe credit should be given to Wenger where it's due. Last season suddenly saw the emergence of around 4 pretty hot English youngsters (can't count Ramsey?)
It burns so deep to hear your main rivals talking about an £18m signing not even being their main signing of the summer

I suspect the anti-racism campaign is more in relation to skin colour racism than nationality racism.
Either way, its almost certain to happen. FIFA has found a way to bypass any obstructive EU laws on the issue, the proposal was passed by 155 votes to 5 at the conference, the English FA voted yes at said conference, and on top of all that we want the world cup bid so we arent likely to go telling FIFA where to shove it
