**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

The point is United tend to take players and move then on a level, regardless of where they came from. Rio and Rooney have improved as players at United even though they cost a premium at the time.

Manchester United take players like Ronaldo, Evra, Vidic and attempt to develop them whereas RM pay the maximum to get them ready made.

He IS good enough to deserve to win, did you see the game last night, Spain, the Euro champions who might have the best team in the world were dominating with him providing every single chance for 20 minutes before he was subbed, he was playing out of position, the very second he went off SPain couldn't make it into the USA's penalty box for 10 minutes and looked a hugely worse team.

I didn't see the game but most people I have spoken to this morning are saying that Fab was pretty ineffective for most of the match, much like the rest of the team.

Still they're far from being stars, I'd call some of Arsenal's youngsters bigger stars/prospects than all of those (Vela/Wilshere/Gibbs) etc. and they're no where near being called stars.

Edit - My bad, Evans looks pretty awesome.

Only if you were an Arsenal fan. Wilshere has played one senior game according to wikipedia, so he can't be that much of a star yet can he. Vela has looked good against poor opposition in the cup but hasn't really done enough to be called a star yet. Anyway I didn't call any of the United one's stars, just said they could be in the future. Gibbs I do rate but I'd still put him slightly behind Evans in terms of current level.

Anyway, back on topic.

We've reportedly accepted a £3m bid from Panathinaikos for Leto because of his work-permit and passport promblems.

edit: trying to spell Panathinaikos cost me that 1 minute :(

But in comparison to RM, that goes for most teams around the world.

Ultimately ManU's best players for some time are the one's brought in who were already established or had bags of obvious talent.

You consider Carrick, Anderson and Nani world stars!?!?

You could say the same with Real - Ramos/Raul/Casillas/Guti all established themselves as great players at Real

I consider Carrick to be one of our best players yes. As for Anderson and Nani only time will tell, I know a lot of people on this forum dont rate them but I have belief that they'll come good and in a few years time they'll be the next United players on Madrid's radar

Oh and Ramos was bought from Seville and he's crap. Fair point about Raul and Casillas. No comment on Guti as he's in the Ramos camp (rubbish)

With no bias at all he was quite ineffective but almost every good bit of play/chance created was all about him.

Some might call Nani and Anderson rubbish :p

I'm playing devil's advocate to an extent as I agree that Real do buy most of their talent, but as an Arsenal fan it's a bit of a slap in the face for a Man Utd fan to claim they make stars and not buy them when every transfer window I see Arsenal competing for £500k youngsters and Man Utd buying £30m superstars :)

Ronaldo, Carrick, Anderson, Nani - none of these would have been considered to be world stars when we bought any of them yet Ronaldo is now the worlds best player and has fetched 80 million.

yea but thats because Ronaldo just won world player of the year and scored a ludicrus amount of goals..

Carrick is naff, Anderson hasnt performed and Nani is a MJ lightweight lookalike who doesnt regularly play.

They werent considered "Stars" when we bought them, and they arent now...apart from Ronaldo...

Anderson has potential its true.

Is Fabregas a star? yes.

Gibson, Wellback, the rest of them will go the way of Wellens, Michael Clegg, i.e play for some rubbish teams and continue to move down the leagues until they end up at Oldham...?

Answer me this, where is Chris Eagles? where is the new Roy Keane (Liam Miller?), and that other fella who scored a goal in the cup at 17... kieron lee? oh yea he's at oldham too...

Oh yeah, im certainly not disagreeing with that.

I would say out of Welbeck, Marcheda, Rafael, Fabio and Possebon there is a decent chance that the majority could end up as first team regulars at United given the chance and a bit of luck.

As I'm not fully up to speed with all of Man Utd's reserves, who's truly, truly likely to break into Man Utd's first team squad and be a geniune asset over the next few years besides Rafael?

I can't see a future for the likes of Gibson/Welbeck/Nani etc.

United always have to overpay though, it's part and parcel. You can bet money that had we wanted Arshavin there's no way we'd of got him as cheap as 12m like you did :(

What a shock, most of the youngsters at one of the top clubs in the world don't end up making the grade....how many youngsters do you think Barca have got rid of over the years? No club has a flawless youth system, it's just a fact that not everyone is going to reach the potential. Especially at a club like United where you have to come in an compete at the highest level under high expectations from the word go.

Michael Carrick is a great player

Anderson certainly has the potential to be a great player

Eagles is irrelevant, he was sold as he was indeed deemed not to be good enough.

Gibson and "Welbeck" are on a different level to the likes of Clegg. Also many players who are brought through at top clubs like Liverpool and United struggle to adjust to lower levels and standards and tend to drop like a stone, it doesnt make the ones that do come through any less talented.

Vela is pretty damn good. He has played awesome against several Premiership teams this season and scored plenty of great goals, a few nights ago I was just watching him vs. Portsmouth in the league game a few months ago and he was absolutely awesome against a full senior side and capped it off with a fantastic goal. His talent is definitely there for everybody to recognise, not only Arsenal fans!
