**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

yea but thats because Ronaldo just won world player of the year and scored a ludicrus amount of goals..

Carrick is naff, Anderson hasnt performed and Nani is a MJ lightweight lookalike who doesnt regularly play.

They werent considered "Stars" when we bought them, and they arent now...apart from Ronaldo...

Anderson has potential its true.

Is Fabregas a star? yes.

Gibson, Wellback, the rest of them will go the way of Wellens, Michael Clegg, i.e play for some rubbish teams and continue to move down the leagues until they end up at Oldham...?

Answer me this, where is Chris Eagles? where is the new Roy Keane (Liam Miller?), and that other fella who scored a goal in the cup at 17... kieron lee? oh yea he's at oldham too...

None of that makes any sense, so Ronaldo only cost Real 80 million because he won an award and scored lots of goals?

It's because he scored so many goals and played the way he did in doing so he won said award and cost so much money. He's the best player in the world, scoring the goals and winning awards in not a fluke he did it because he's that good and is worth a record breaking transfer fee.

You must be a very depressed disillusioned United fan if you think Carrick is naff considering he's now unequivocally our first choice Central Midfielder

As I'm not fully up to speed with all of Man Utd's reserves, who's truly, truly likely to break into Man Utd's first team squad and be a geniune asset over the next few years besides Rafael?

I can't see a future for the likes of Gibson/Welbeck/Nani etc.

Gibson I'm prepared to give another season
Welbeck I'm not sure about but he's only 17 so maybe even that is harsh on him
Nani I'm predicted to have a great season, only time will tell if I'm wrong or not

Macheda is the one I have highest hopes for :)

My question was pre-empted :p

Hehe, you can throw Campbell and Jonny Evans into that mix as well. Also Evans brother Corey looks a prospect too and Eckersley has a chance.

Of course not all will make it at United. Standards are very very high but nevertheless it shows that the players are being developed even if another club ultimately get the benefit of them.

Vela is pretty damn good. He has played awesome against several Premiership teams this season and scored plenty of great goals, a few nights ago I was just watching him vs. Portsmouth in the league game a few months ago and he was absolutely awesome against a full senior side and capped it off with a fantastic goal. His talent is definitely there for everybody to recognise, not only Arsenal fans!

I remember many a promising Arsenal youngster do the kinds of things that Vela did last season and not amount to anything (for Arsenal anyway)

Remember Bentley's chip against Boro all those years ago? Next Bergkamp my arse :p

Possibly but I personally try not to over-estimate players from any team, especially Arsenal as I'm more aware of looking silly, but I think he's going to succeed as he has shown too much talent and goal scoring ability to turn out rubbish. His range of finishing is astounding for somebody with such little experience.

Can't say you have high hopes for Macheda and then doubt Vela, Macheda hasn't even shown 10% of what Vela has!

That was literally the only thing of note Bentley ever did in an Arsenal shirt. There is a world of difference between how good Bentley was (irrespective of how good he thought he was) at Arsenal and how good Vela is.

And the 50yard strike against your lot was the only thing he's done for us.
:p

Yet after his first two and bit years people said on here he wasn't going to amount to much. I can't remember the thread now(The thread were only nokkon kept any faith he would be any good). Then 12 months later he was a superstar.

The same could happen with Nani ;)

It could but it would be a massive turnaround.

He unquestionably has talent but he just doesnt seem to have the heart or the work rate.

Also he obviously isnt doing it in training either cos there were times when United were crying out for a player of his type last season and he didnt feature. Despite SAF saying he is in his plans he doesnt seem to be a huge fan at the moment.

Nokkon still thought Evra was rubbish after the 06/07 season though so you cant trust him ;) :p

I dont agree that he doesn't put in a shift or he doesn't have the heart. I think the only thing missing from Nani at the moment is a brain, he just doesn't make the right decisions but Ronaldo suffered from that also and look how he turned out

Not saying Nani is going to be the best player in the world or score 20+ goals a season but I think there's more chance of him being a success rather than being branded another Queresma

I hope anyway

i think if you can find any thread about ronaldo where i contributed you will also find that i said he was an immense talent from the word go.

nani et al are not in the same league in terms of determination, skill, flair, technique...ability...

You must be a very depressed disillusioned United fan if you think Carrick is naff considering he's now unequivocally our first choice Central Midfielder

yea u better believe i am...

the fact that Carrick is our own first choice center midfielder and the best that can be said for him is that he is consistently above average.

If you watch a game where we do not pack a 5 man central entourage, you will find that we are more reliant on the back 4 and front 2-3 than we are on our central players...or we just get overrun...

I still don't think Ronaldo has developed that much of a footballing brain but his feet are so damn quick nowadays it doesn't seem to matter.

Nani has shown glimpses of quality but his attitude seems all wrong, luckily that can be changed pretty quickly with a few stern words, or that can just make it worse. It'd be better to judge him after next season I suppose but I personally don't have the highest hopes for him.

Problem is there will have been 2 years of sterm words already under the bridge. I just dont know why he is suddenly going to come on next season after 2 years of absolutely no improvement.

Whatever people say about Ronaldo you could see development from day one. We are two years down the track with Nani and if anything i have less hope for him than the day he signed.
