**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

Problem is there will have been 2 years of sterm words already under the bridge. I just dont know why he is suddenly going to come on next season after 2 years of absolutely no improvement.

Whatever people say about Ronaldo you could see development from day one. We are two years down the track with Nani and if anything i have less hope for him than the day he signed.

Just a case of second season syndrome perhaps?

I think the problem that we had last season is that it was a huge risk playing two strikers as well as Ronaldo on one wing and Nani on the other and for obvious reason Ronaldo wasn't going to be left out, nor was Rooney and nor was both Berbatov and Tevez so Nani had an up hill battle from day one of last season.

One such game where he did start only to get subbed that sticks out in my memory was the game against Spurs at OT where Nani IMO had a good 45 minutes but found himself the one taken off, again not surprising really as you wouldn't take Ronaldo, Rooney and Berbatov off when you're 2 goals down

People can say what they want about Nani after last season but I saw enough from him in his first season to have the confidence that given a prolonged run in the team he'll flourish next season.

Obviously though next season if make or break without a doubt

Ronaldo, Carrick, Anderson, Nani
Carrick was as good at Tottenham as he is now for you lot. You've not improved him in any way.

You've moulded Nani into what? A average-to-good winger? Hurrah!

Please don't start the Anderson debate again. Good potential maybe, yet to show anything approaching consistently good form. Far too early to say you've created a "star" there.

So yeah, you groomed Ronaldo well. That makes one. Well done.

You're blind if you cant see an improvement in Carrick's game from when he was at Spurs to now. Hell United fans can even see an improvement in him since his first season with us to now.

As for the rest I'm not going to argue the Nani case with you as I've already done it with others.

If Carrick is appearing to be as good now as he was at Spurs yet now he is playing CL football all the way to two finals i would say that shows that at the very least he has stepped up?

Is it only me who doesn't understand this!? He's playing CL football because he changed clubs mainly and was playing with Ronaldo et al?

I hope you are right. Certainly there wont be a whole team working to provide Ronaldo with chances so the whole attacking side of the team will have a different dynamic next season.

Oh and one more thing on this point what about Van Nistelrooy? Was he the best striker in the world when we signed him? No he was a relative unknown and we made him into what he was. Only difference between Ruud and Ronaldo was we managed to keep hold of Ruud during his best days and only sold him when wanted to.

So that's two players at the very least that we've bought moulded into the best and then sold

No. What im saying is if he looked good in the PL against a certain standard of opposition and he looks just as good against better opposition in the CL then he has either stepped up or improved.

If a player looks decent in the second division and then looks equally comfortable in the PL, does that not mean he has developed as a player?

I think that was just natural progression as he got older and more experienced though, don't think Man Utd unearthed a gem or anything

No, I just have a good enough memory to remember how good he was at Tottenham, and how his game dipped when he moved to your lot. All he's done in the last couple of seasons is get back to his best.

Oh aye, so unknown you paid a bargain £19m for him.

EDIT: I'm not here to debate every single player you've bought and improved, and I'm fully aware you have developed quite a few players over the years (obviously your beloved Beckham/Giggs/Scholes generation). But to say you're a youth developing side, when very few of your current first team are from those ranks, is laughable.

I dont think there was a question of "unearthing a gem", its more a case of identifying players than can step up a level and giving them the platform to do so.

I thought this whole point was about developing players from nothing into stars?

I think I'm missing the point if it isn't

Correct. He was playing extremely well at the Lane. Why else would United have doshed out £18m for him?

We still haven't replaced him IMO.

"Jimenez: Newcastle fans convinced me about joining West Ham

Luis Jimenez says the passion of Newcastle United's fans convinced him about a move to West Ham.

The Inter Milan forward joined on a season long loan with a view to a permanent £4million deal.

He said: "I watched the final day of last season and saw how passionate the Newcastle fans were and what it meant to go down."

Where did I say that? I said we dont buy stars we make them and that is true. It was true with Ruud, it was true with Ronaldo and it'll continue to be true as will Real Madrid and their policy of buying the established

Oh and of our current team Brown, Neville, Evans, Rafael, Scholes, Giggs & Fletcher are all those who have come through the ranks so even if that was my original point it's not laughable in the slightest

He could still look out of his depth with better player around him. That hasnt been the case. He has been first choice midfielder.

You're not getting my point.

At the time, Carrick was our best player. Or at the very least, our best midfielder. He was of United standards then, he has progressed, but it's not huge progression, just fitting into United's style.
