Where were you when.......

Diana - Round a friends playing on his PS1, Gran Turismo.
Twin Towers - Getting ready to go to College.
MJ - At work on my night shift. Been watching the BBC News Live feed all night.

Remember all the recent ones and what I was doing at the time, mostly catching it has it happened on Sky news. Diana/twin towers. Twin towers saw it live as it happened especially the second plane coming in and making contact.

JFK. I think I was 16/17 just got home from work and it was on radio Luxembourg then on the TV news, Luxembourg along with many other radio stations and BBC 1 TV closed down for the rest of the evening as a mark of respect, radio about 8pm and TV about 10pm. :(

Diana, was coming back from working at a nightclub in Leeds. What I found amusing was that the Mail on Sunday had already sent out a print run with a massive article slagging her off rotten.... strange how they pulled it after she died :)

Twin Towers, was having a mooch around central london on a day off - saw people gathered around a pub in cambridge circus as it was too busy to get in. There was something happening on the telly, but I was too short sighted to see what they were watching. Got to tottenham court road and it was all over the massive display TVs :(

7/7 - was out in the sticks of SE London working at another site, everyone had it on the news as I got there. Got no work done that day as everyone was just watching the telly. Was bricking it as my dad was supposed to be headed to Kings Cross about the time the bomb went off and his mobile phone was off. Thankfully, he hadn't gone anywhere near there and was mystified why I was so annoyed he hadn't switched his phone on...

The Princess diana one was strange and just shows how geeky computer nerds are.
It was sunday morning and my mate picked me up to go to the computer fair.
We then spent the next 3 hours talking to other geeks and on arriving home at sunday dinner time my wife had got the TV on with Diana all over it.
I found it very odd that my mate knew about it but didn't mention it and at least 100 people didn't mention it at the fair.
Then again, why should they?

Princess Diana - I was about 7-8 years old, and I was watching Cartoon Network on Sky (remember the really old one, with a grey menu) and suddenly there was a newsflash at the bottom of the screen. I changed the channel but every single one showed this message. I then proceeded to watch the news, and remember seeing the footage vividly.

For 9/11 - I was about 12 years old, it was a Tuesday (iirc) and I was going to 'youth club', I had only heard about when a friend George told me that some planes had crashed into New York. Went home and found out more.

For Jacko - On the internet, watching it unveil. Went to bed at about 11:35 as I needed to be up today, but in my need to know, I sat in bed on my blackberry reading ocuk til it was confirmed. I have no idea why, but I did. I couldn't sleep because I was itching to break the news to people (stupid I know).

I remember where i was when diana died. I read about it on the sunday morning at about 4am as it was on the front of all the papers that i was putting out for sale in the shop i worked in.

I remember getting up early to watch kids tv on the weekend when Diana died, obviously it was just news on all 4 channels so I went upstairs woke up my mum and dad to tell them, they didnt believe me till i dragged them down stairs.

Dont know why I remember that, dont remember any other 'where were yous', just one of these random childhood memories.

EDIT: you wrote Prince Diana :p

+1

I wanted to watch Power Rangers damnit!!

kurt cobain - came home from school and my sister was crying
princess diana - my dad woke me up to tell me, I responded with something along the lines of "so?"
john peel - I can't remember where I was but my mum text or rang me
9/11 - was at college either in a lesson or on the way in, got a text from a mate who was in an IT lesson and could look it up
london bombings - I was in work and had to act as a gateway for the news for all the people who had restricted inet access
jackson - I was in the cinema and as we came out people were talking about it as they checked their phones.

Twin Towers I was Working for NTL and saw the 2nd plane hit from a live feed
Lady Di, I got up and my son was playing with his wrestlers with the TV on and it was on the news. I asked him about it and he had not been watching it.
MJ, in front of PC on here about midnight last night.
My Mum , while I was at work, I then came home and found her.

09 11, at home working. Remember thinking for a while it was a movie or something. Then I switched out to CNN and it all became clear very quickly and horribly. That day left a mark on so many people.

CNN managed to run 5 days without any adverts after 9/11 I think - just 24/7 news - no other shows.

Diana - Can't remember
9-11 - just got home from school and then watched the news on the tv
Michael Jackson - *Quick to the internets* (sat in front of my lappy browsing)

I was on holiday when Diana died, woke up hungover and thought someone was joking when they told me.
Was at work when the Twin Towers fell.
Was in bed watching tv, BB had just finished and someone online mentioned that Jacko had been taken to hospital so I put the news on and finally the reports of his death came in.
Farrah Fawcett, was browsing the net when I heard, shame nobody is going to mention her death now, except maybe in passing :(

Princess Diana: In bed with the wife after a most splendid night out

Twin Towers: At work, watching it on the Tv there and thinking it was some kind of elaborate hoax by the yanks

Michael jackson: In Bed, the wife told me this morning

John Peel: Couldnt tell you, dont think i knew he was dead until radio 1 started blarting on about it a year later

London Bombings: At work

I was boarding a place in Nice airport when I saw the news unveil about the twin towers.

That's about the only event I remember - most news doesn't phase me much :(
