**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

People knock Johnson, including me, but I think he'll turn out to be a great buy.
He's changed drastically for the better since he left Chelsea and I think that'll only continue.
His temperament is ok now, his attacking play is far more intelligent and when he adds that intelligence to his defending he'll be a really good RB:)

Going forward he's very good and would possibly make a decent RM but defensively he worries me. Hopefully he'll improve defensively with us and he wouldn't be the first defender to make a step up for us under Rafa.

Here

And for the gazillionth time by that I did not mean United and Barcelona bring all their stars through the ranks simply that the sign players with potential and turn them into stars

As for Ronaldo I know what has been claimed but regardless of that 99% of English football watching fans had never heard of Cristiano Ronaldo before we signed him despite what they may say

So i was right and he was wrong. ;)

Closer to £17m and no doubt with a few £m of that being add-ons. Still too expensive though but with Arbeloa likely to be leaving we need a rb and we need some more English players for our CL squad.

£17 million is a hell of a lot of money, for what seems to be a fairly average right back. You're paying well over the top because he is English.
I don't think you'll be paying the full 17 million up front, maybe 10 and the rest spread out some how.

Would you be happy playing him on the right of midfield ? He is fairly good going forward, and a good crosser of the ball. Would you be happy to maybe try and keep Arbeloa, and push Johnson forward against teams ?

What I meant was that £3-4m of the £17m will be based on success etc. It's incredibly rare that deals are straight cash deals. In other words; £10m up front, £3-4m spread over the length of his contract and another £3-4m based on success.

No I wouldn't, Kuyt's been excellent there but he could do job if needed i suppose.

And it's 99% certain that Arbeloa will be off. He's wanted to go back to Spain since last summer and he's only got 1 year left on his deal.

Just appeared on the beeb:

Cristiano Ronaldo will complete his world record £80m move from Manchester United to Real Madrid on 1 July after agreeing a six-year deal.

United, who accepted Real's offer for the 24-year-old winger on 11 June, confirmed the finalisation of the transfer on their club website.

A statement on Real's website read: "The player will be tied to Real Madrid for the next six seasons.

"He will be presented on 6 July at the Santiago Bernabeu."

Ah well. Bit disappointed but as said before, he's not irreplacable.

Hopefully £80m will get a couple of decent players who won't throw a strop every summer.

The Spanish newspaper Marca said yesterday that Ronaldo will earn a salary of 13 million euros ($18.2 million), the highest for any soccer player.

Now wait for benzema and valenica to sign ;D

It really is a silly thing to say, he IS irreplacable, its quite simple, name someone you can buy that can scored 42 goals, get probably 10+ assists(in all comps, it was 6/7 just in the league but never see the count for all comps).

I can name a single player that can score that much, his name is Ronaldo, and not the fat one playing in Brazil right now.

Now the thing to say, rather than trying to be all cool about losing the best player in the world right now is to say the money CAN be used to get the SQUAD to a higher level than before, but that money simply can't be used to buy a single player of equal quality. But they can buy a good to great right winger, a much better left winger, another striker and a better right back and goalkeeper. The new right winger won't be scoring 40 goals, but 4 better players in a squad between them with 3 midfielders who can score more might score 42 goals between them. COnsidering this year and more last year the likes of SCholes/Anderson/Giggs/Nani between them scored next to nothing theres a lot of leeway for more goals from better players in those positions.

I think Utd certainly need a striker but they need to decide now if they are going to start Rooney ahead of Berb or on the left/right wing. Theres little point spunking their load on Benzema or Aguero if they are going to be a rotation/back up striker and have less cash to buy quality wingers, likewise if Rooney still plays the wing theres little point spunking 60mil on a winger like Ribery when Rooney's excellent there. FOr me he's a better winger than striker, he's unwilling to stay up the field, prefers to be involved in creating than scoring and so works better further back. He was wasted as a withdrawn striker running after the ball, he became much better when pulled further back onto the wing and given a real position to play. But Fergie needs to choose a position for him and stick with it, and make Rooney stick to it aswell.

Why does it have to be one person wiht £80m? It doesnt

With MUCH less selfish and more team orientated players that is not such a hard target to get to, not to mention Rooney is worth an extra 10-15 goals a season and majority of those assists just playing centrally (and that costs nothing)

Ooh, controversial.

Or just another excuse to chase more money lol (and give up on silverware)

Absolute crap, again, the highest assists pretty much anywhere are years where Fabregas got around 20, or Young got 18 I think, Barry used to get 15 odd assists a year for a few years. Ronaldo gets between 8-10, selfish, stupidest excuse I've seen in ages. He wastes freekicks is the new one, you know how many freekicks get scored, it will be less than 5% no matter the person and no matter the style in which they take them, freekicks rarely turn into goals, most games have 5-10 and most games don't have a goal from a freekick. Having a go at Ronaldo for shooting from freekicks and scoring the odd one, instead of crossing them in, and scoring the odd one, is just utterly retarded.

Also pretending Rooney, who not for a single second in his entire career has looked prolific, will score an extra 15 goals a season because the selfish Ronaldo has gone is simply ridiculous. Whats his highest scoring year in the prem now, 12 maybe 15? You think he's going to become a 30 goal a year striker, is this from his pre ROnaldo years where he scored 6 or 8 goals a year at Everton? Or is it from knocking in 2-3 in a single game against SAn Marino or Andorra?

Thats not the type of player Rooney is, he's never been an Owen, even when asked to play up top as the main striker he drops deep, he does so for England, Man U and used to for Everton, thats his game, a creator not a scorer, pretending otherwise is to blindly ignore the truth.

As for spending 80million on one player, point out where I suggested that, I didn't, I said there was NOT A SINGLE PLAYER THAT COULD REPLACE HIM. So from me saying theres no one in the world that can replace him, you've decided to pretend I said you could spend it all on a single player? Even though I specifically said they can replace his goals by buying multiple players. In all likely hood Utd will buy ONE big player, a Benzema/Augero/Ribery(for sake of the Argument) so you're looking at 30-50mil for a "star" then a couple players for 10-20mil each, or a bunch of kids for 5 mil each, whatever.

People also ignore a lot of the reasoning for Ronaldo taking it on his own, with Tevez/Rooney constantly dropping deep, and Ronaldo often breaking he's simply ahead of them a lot of the time. UTd simply haven't had a RVN at the club for a few years who stays up the field and is always available for a tap in. Nor should you ignore the fact that, for instance in the Spurs game, ROnaldo, Berb and Rooney were involved in every goal, he might not of got an assist for all of them, but he was involved in the build up, he puts in tonnes of crosses, lots and lots of passes and has more assists than 80% of the league, not sure what the problem is.

You should also not forget that almost every single game without fail I've seen for the past 3 years, Ronaldo is back at every single corner, Ronaldo has cleared corners and won literally hundreds of headers over the years in your own box stopping goals being scored, pretending he does nothing is a joke.

EDIT:- Ronaldo got 20 assists in 06/07, 15 league, 4 CL, 1 in the fa cup, when the club had Saha and Oli playing alongside Rooney, they had "poacher" type strikers, they haven't had that for 2 years and Rooney isn't that kind of player, having a go at ROnaldo for stepping up pfrom 17 goals to 42 to win you the double is a little harsh. the number of players that can get 20 assists in a season is, well, you're talking about less than 1% of players have gotten 20 or more in a season in the prem, Fabregas, Ronaldo, Scholes might have years ago, beckham maybe, very very few others, selfish, yet with the right strikers the ability to be the highest assist maker in the league, sure.........

You really do bore me DM. Can't wait for the season to start to end all this talking :)

Boo hoo, I get bored of people talking crap. Ronaldo is selfish, gets no assists, never defends and is easily replaceable according to....... mostly UTd fans who can't admit the team will be weaker without him in all likelyhood after buying new players and at this particular second with no replacements is massively weaker.

To counter the "selfish" claim, Lampards highest ever season assists was this year, with 19, Ronaldo's highest is 20, Fabregas, probably the best assist maker in the world to date, has 24, SCholes, laughably, has a assist high in a season with 56 starts, of 4 assists :p

So 2 of the most well regarded assist makers in Fabregas and Lampard, to of the least selfish players in the league, and Ronaldo's gotten more assists than one of those. It would even seem that Lampard had 56/57 games for those 19 assists, Ronaldo had 48ish games for 20 assists, Fabregas got his 24 assists in 43 games which is sick.

Almost as sick is the fact that Lampard played 70 games for Chelsea and England this year, thats pretty damn nuts.
