Spec me a Zelda game

Is there a version of MM for the game cube at all?

Yes there is, as well as the OOT/MasterQuest [sort of a 'remix' of OOT that only came out on the 64DD as it was bigger than a cart at the time] bonus disc with early copies of WW, there was a seperate bonus disc with MM, OOT and 2 early Zeldas on (google: Legend of Zelda Collector's Edition - Gamecube).
I have both discs hiding somewhere in my GC collection as I've been a solid fan of the series since playing LTTP/OOT, and I got them both free in offers/packages :)

I would try and get a copy of Twilight Princess as well. OOT followed by MM, then TP and finally WW form a rough set in the series. On the gamecube version of TP where they didnt reverse everything due to link lefty/wii right handed issue, the general world layout is almost identical with some nudges towards OOT as well during the game to help link the set, and to help create a continuity for fans. The frozen underwater scene in WW will then mean that much more to you, after playing the other titles. I was absolutely blown away when I first saw it, was one of the most beautiful, well rendered scenes I saw last gen due to the memories it evoked, and how much I wanted to 'go look' and explore.

If you think you are truly going to enjoy all these I cant recommend playing them in this order enough :)

Hmmmmm,I can get the collectors edition disc that has nes games legend of zelda 1&2 and the n64 games ocarina of time and majoras mask, for £15.
Or I can get windwaker and ocarina of time for £19.
Which would be the best buy?
I never played any N64 or gamecube zelda games but have played a few others on the snes and gameboy.

Best buy would be both. WW/MM are both good games and worth playing if you like Zelda. Or if you're not interested in Master Quest, try and find a cheap normal copy of WW and get the collectors edition pack, best of both worlds there, I've seen the lesser WW pack go for £10 before.

Wait, is Windwaker set after TP? I thought the order was OoT -> MM -> WW -> (bloody long time) -> TP

EDIT: Oh no, my mistake, TP is the alternate timeline follow-on from OoT.

Well, because of what happens in WW; *that scene* and a few little comments in WW etc, I always thought TP was set before hand <No spoilers here!>. It could equally be a parallel timeline though.

So sort of OOT --several days later---> Majoras Mask --- long time/alternate timeline ----> Twilight Princess --really long time later ---> Wind Waker

Aye I suppose it could in a way, as Wind Waker references the "Hero" from a previous game, which since TP is very much like a enhanced remake of OoT in some ways, could be either.

Looking it up though, it seems to be officially considered as separate timelines though, as the end of OoT allows two branches.

I think Miyamoto said with the Zelda series that it doesn't really follow a timeline, and each Link (bar OOT and MM) is a different one from the others. Of course, you can sort of piece it together like you have done (with regards to said scene in WW) but I certainly wouldn't worry too much about playing them through in a certain order (again, OOT and MM aside)

To be honest, I'd swap OOT and A link to the past around.

I mean i know Graphically and the fact time has been good to OOT helps it. But at the time, I much more enjoyed Link to the past, in comparison. Loved travelling between worlds with the dark mirror, etc.

Deciding which should be top out of the two was the hardest part of making that list, they are so close. The reason why i preferred OOT isn't completely to do with the game itself though, OOT contributed more to 'modern' gaming than lttp and i was old enough to better appreciate OOT when it came out. I've replayed lttp since then and loved it but i remember too little of my first playthrough if you see what i mean.

A link to the past definitely felt like a deeper game, lots more items and also had some very cool bonus secret items later on that I actually didnt know about until like a year after I played it! So then I went back to get them. No other game has made me go back to play it like that.

I thought OOT was more atmospheric and darker, but this is due to the N64 more than the game itself. I wonder how OOT in LTTP style would have compared to LTTP. There was a project making it but the guy behind it faked his own death or something. It was pretty messed up.

That's what it was shaping up like. Shame, really, I would have loved to have played it.

There is a certain chronological order to all of the Zelda games, it's just that at the end of OOC, they split off into different parallels - apparently. :o
It's always been something I've been meaning to figure out but hrm, oh well..

I think I'll finally grab some Wii Points and download MM.

Oh the smallest of difference.

Mario with a hat, Mario with a cat, Mario in space, Mario with no face. And why on earth does he always collect bloody Stars? Why not severed heads or something a bit gritty?

If ever there was a poster boy for "playing too much WoW will lead to major psychological deficiencies" then you are surely it...

Link's Awakening DX was pretty good, I'll give you that, but it can't hold a candle (or a lantern :p ) to either LTTP or OOT. What they managed to achieve on the platform was pretty damn impressive, though.

I actually thought LTTP was predictable and boring compared to LA.

LA is still number 2 for me simply because it was such a strange plot and featured the series most devious puzzles.
