**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

Yet they are and we've done fine. Funny that.

No, they have had other players around them to carry them. Fletcher seems to do a man marking job quite well but that's it, Anderson is just poor everytime I see him, if them two are in your starting 11 next season then you're asking for trouble.

Your optimism is quite fantastic :D

So who ARE the three on the transfer list - Campbell, Macheda and ?

Macheda where on earth did you hear he was on the transfer list?

There were rumours that it was Gibson (which isn't true), Campbell (which is true) the other was Danny Simpson who has been on loan at Blackburn (would make sense seeing as he wont get in ahead of O'Shea, Neville, Rafael and Brown)

Against the top teams in Europe you're suggesting Diarra is good enough? No. No he isn't.

Funny that. He's better than all but one of manyoo's fit midfielders.

Will you do fine if Carrick is out for any length of time? Anderson and Fletcher starting week-in, week-out with O'Shea as cover. Awesome sauce :D

Kinda goes hand in hand with my previous comment that I dont agree with that, we've got plenty of strength in depth in our midfield

No, you haven't.

Fair enough, I think that there needs to be some buys though, what happens if Carrick gets a 3 month injury etc?

If Carrick gets injured then yes we're pretty screwed but then again IMO losing Carrick would have been a massive blow each of the last 3 seasons also

As is your blindness.

We've just won the Premiership for the third time in a row, reached our second Champions League final in a row, reached the semi final of the FA Cup and won the Carling Cup

You dont do that if your midfield is crap and you're solely relying on one player (Ronaldo) and your defence

I've already answered that yes we would struggle without Carrick, but then again Arsenal struggle without Fabregas, Chelsea would struggle with Lampard and Liverpool would struggle without Mascherano so dont get what your point is? Every team would struggle if their first choice midfielder was out of action for any prolonged amount of time

No, you haven't.

Yes we do :)

Who said they were crap? Just probably not good enough to repeat the last few seasons success

Yeah but as an Arsenal fan I don't claim that Arsenal have any strength in depth, they don't, very easy to accept!

My point is the other teams you name have other quality midfielders. No, they're not quite as good for their respective teams, but they still perform to a level high enough on a regular basis. Chelsea have Essien, Liverpool have Gerrard, they have real quality there. Arsenal do have limited central midfielders as opposed to AMC/F without Fabregas, I agree, but that doesn't stop manyoo being bereft of any quality in the centre without Carrick there.

Vying with Arsenal is no longer good enough for manyoo. Remember, for large stretches last season without Fabregas Arsenal were in with a real shout of missing out on CL footy. manyoo can't afford to be in that position. They will be without two quality fit midfielders at the club. They have one.

We'll see I guess, I'm optimistic that we've got enough

I agree with him, look back to the summer of 2006 - we'd just lost Roy Keane and sold Van Nistelrooy and the only player who came in was Carrick and we ended up that season playing the best football we had for years and 2 years on many of us United fans agree that was still the best football this particular United team has played despite 2 more league titles and a Champions League coming since then

I find it funny due to the fact that season, was when Ronaldo got 20 assists, yes, that selfish useless Ronaldo that apparently no Man U fans will miss had his best season in terms of assists, and was FAR better than Carrick.

Man U fans, well some/most, are simply making excuses. You say he's selfish, yet every stat has him as the best assist maker to date at Utd in a year they had strikers willing to stay upfront. The only thing that changed since that season was you lose 2 poachers in Saha and Oli, he scored more as he got less assists, it isn't due to lack of crosses. He still was heavily involved in the majority of goals created even if he didn't get the last pass and therefore the assist.

Saying Ronaldo is selfish, lazy, or really anything negative is really pathetic, he stopped countless goals being scored by being back for corners and freekicks, he scored countless goals, he set countless goals up. by running the field with the ball and beating players he helped your team retain possesion. He puts in countless crosses and passes to people, he would set up loads of chances in almost every game, if Tevez didn't fluff almost every chance maybe he'd have another 10 assists, who knows.

Lack of assists ISN'T damning evidence of selfishness, nor is shooting from freekicks, scoring from freekicks, no matter if you chip it in for others to header, or shoot directly, the amount of freekicks that get scored is ridiculously small, most teams will take 10 freekicks a game and only score a freekick one in every 3-4 games. To say Ronaldo was selfish and cost the team goals by shooting from them is so far reaching its a joke.

Ronaldo carried the midfield, Valencia is good, but not good enough, his crossing is decent and IF Utd by a poacher it might be enough. But to pretend Ronaldo never passed and that the rest of the midfield will suddenly shine in his absense is just utter nonsense. Utd need heavy investment, a real left winger, a striker, and probably another right winger. If Valencia gets injured, whose going to play as cover, Giggs is past it, Nani will never be good enough.

Wow thanks for the info Nostradamus

Really don't know what is the point you're trying to is with the rest of the stuff you said there

Many United fans (not saying I agree) think that Ronaldo's best season over these past 3 years was the 06/07 season, the ones that are saying he's lazy, selfish etc etc are pointing towards his performances of last season not his entire tenure at United.

Personally my opinion on it all is that Ronaldo had around 2 maybe 3 games last season when he was by far and away the best player on the pitch for us the rest of them although the goals were still scored his general performance wasn't great (Villa at home being a classic example to sum up Ronaldo last season)

Do I think we'll miss Ronaldo? Oh without a doubt. Do I think we'll suddenly be this mediocre team battling it out with Arsenal for 3rd/4th without him? Definitely not. The way the team plays will change and I still fully expect us to be there or thereabouts when it comes to honours come May
