I rate im how I rate Alonso. Not the same type of player I know, but I see both as being able to be worthy of a captains armband at Liverpool if Gerrard wasn't there. They're highly respected, professional (well, apart from the Defoe 'bite' incident
) and are amongst the best in their positions. But for the £30m+ that people are saying, I just don't think that's right.
The good thing about both Masch and Alonso is that no matter what, you know that they're both model pro's and will give 100% on the pitch not to mention they won't want to miss out on their cut of the transfer fee by handing a transfer request in.
We don't want or need to sell either and for us to consider offers for either, it's going to take silly money which is why I can't see Masch going. Barca don't pay ott transfer fees and simply can't afford to either (and tbh i just think he wants a new contract). You never know with Alonso though; Real can afford to pay silly money, it's just a case of whether they do or not.

Yeh, Alonso's the only one going if they cough up the money. Masch is quite happy at the club and like you said probably just wants an improved contract for peace of mind that he's respected as much as they say he is.
Alonso on the other hand i can understand if he wants to leave, he was harshly treated last year and fair play to the lad for a spectactular season. Rafa didnt handle that well last year.

Im no Liverpool fan but really Mascherano is the best player in his position. He's right up there with the Essiens of the footballing world. Not that they would ever sell him to us but I would be happy for Fergie to spaff the best part of £30m no problem.
It's not necessarily what he does when he has the ball but it's what he does to the oppositions space when Liverpool haven't got the ball. 'Pool fans were crying in there beer about what if some of them draws were wins. Without Mascherano, some of them draws would have been defeats

Flamini, Diarra, Toure, Hargreaves, Pirlo, Gattuso, Rossi, Ambrosini, Zambrotta, Essien.
I've not said Mash is a "bad" player, Don't get upset Liverpool fans.
I just think, that £17 million is about what he is worth.
The Transfer market, is massively overpriced because of the clubs like Manchester City, Real, Chelsea (not so much now) are willing to pay over the odds for players.
Mash is an important player, and big cog in Liverpool's big... wheel of cogs ? ha but you get the idea, I'd want to milk it for as much as I could get selling an important player.
I just think, he is worth £15-20 million.
Johnson, going to Liverpool, is a good move, he will become a better player, playing at a much better team like Liverpool, which is what I said all along, at the moment, he's not worth £17 million. Half that maybe.
I'll give you 22.78m, and you'll take it.

Kaka, I can't comment on as I haven't seen enough of him.
Ronaldo, with the commercial appeal, obvious talent, age etc, I would have thought £60m would have been the max. It's an extremely high profile transfer due to the media hype that has been piled upon it and being World player of the year twice already at the age of 24 means a lot.
You gotta be kidding! Theres like 3 types of player there! Rossi = No! = Zambrotta = FB, Ambrosini = Gotta be kidding? Hargreaves = unproven!
What? i'm not talking about talent, you can argue all day about who was better, i'm talking about the type of player he is

Agreed, I'd consider Mascherano and Essien as the two best in the world at the defensive midfield position. I know the defensive part of the team is never worth quite as much as the attacking part but I reckon, in the current transfer market, that Mascherano is worth about £30 million, and the same goes for Essien.
I'd take a bag of cheese and onion mccoys to be fair.

I think you're being unrealistic to be honest. The market HAS moved on, players cost more now. Yes, the prices seem ridiculous, but it's just the way it is.
Zambrotta is a full back not a DM and the only one who I think is on a par with Mascherano at breaking up play is Essien.

meh. I find it very hard to imagine players being worth any more then 25/30 million.
Ronaldo for 80 million was silly.
More fool Real for paying that much.
Kaka, for 60, that's still a lot of money for a player.

I'm sorry mate, as much as I would like to agree with you as a fellow utd fan I can't. Flamini and Diarra are not as good as Mascherano. Hargreaves could potentially be but he is always injured, Pirlo is a totally different player to Masch, much better at passing but nowhere near the same level of work rate, tackling, marking. Gattuso is past it, De Rossi is not as good, Zambrotta is a full-back. Really the only person there in the same league as Mascherano is Essien.
