**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

Not sure if this is true but it seems RM are funded by a new 1.1BN euro three year contract from their local tv station, along with a 5 year 600 million euro deal with their kit provider ( that was from a Liverpool fan so it could be a load of **** :D)

I wouldn't necessarily say he was always a target, but certainly on our radar and always a prospective signing.

We probably pursued Owen when we realised that the Benzema deal wasn't going our way (and by that before Benzema told us "No") and only seriously targeted him when he would be a realistic target.

At last someone with sense - good work fella!

Still a long way to go then, we should chill out, let everything settle down and see what the situation is a little later in the summer. Maybe try and scout out some less known players.

Arsenal always seem to announce players on a Friday and this is the last one before pre-season!

So nothing more than feeling it in your water then :) We won't sign a striker until or if Ade goes. (It will be Bordeaux striker Chamakh if it happens) That leaves a CM, and maybe another CB.

I'm not happy with the Owen signing and I'm a united fan. To me it seems like a panic signing, as now Benzema is pretty much set for Real Madrid and Tevez has left us.

:D

2 World Class signings... A winger who barely set the world alight at an average team, and a washed up striker constantly injured who has never scored 20 league goals. Whilst selling your best player.

The 1998–1999 season proved to be another good season for Owen as he scored 23 Goals in 40 games for Liverpool.

Are you sure about never scoring more than 20 goals? I cannot believe you are questioning the goal scoring ability of Owen.

Lets face the music guys.

What will Owen bring to Manu? Any decent striker will score goals at Manu. Owen will be no different.

Owen does not have the attributes to beat world class defenders anymore. No strength no pace. What use is he playing against top European teams?

he be just a decent player to have in the sqaud in a long season in the league

There is still nearly 2 months left of the transfer window and people think united won't sign another player if we sign owen? I bet we do ;)

If he scores as many as Tevez did last season (which is do-able) I will be pleased as he will have cost us £25million less. Tevez scored 15 in total I think, 6 in the League Cup (4 in one game..).

No proof at all, just really hoping for somebody soon and also from hearing Wenger telling the press he wants all business to be done ASAP! As much as I dislike Ade, I'd prefer him to Chamakh though, hope that doesn't happen.

More likely to be funded with simple old bankloans like the last time this tit was in power at Madrid..

And then the council had to bail the club out of the crap they ended up in ,paying ~200% the value of RM's training facility to prevent them going into administration.

My thoughts exactly.

If Owen hits double figures in goals next year then it's a good signing.

Lets not forget he's on a free and a 10+ goal a season striker for £0 in transfer fees sounds good really.

It also means we have £50m left from the Ronaldo sale still unspent... so I'd like to think that we can still shop around and build a better squad.

I can't be bothered to read to see how many fickle fans have posted since i posted last...

It's a joke, if the majority of Man Utd fans don't come out and say what they have been saying for a long time about Owen then you are all ridiculous...

Since joining Newcastle Owen hasn't been worth anyones time, he has been linked with big teams before and you have all said he is a waste of money and time and some people have said he isnt a premiership striker anymore! Never an england striker again either..

Well.. how funny football talk is! Surely when he scores a few goals in the the first few games he plays he will be the best in the league and the best England striker again.

I'll never forget how much of a misery he was at Newcastle, injury after injury, fair enough in the games he has played, the total goals is like 1 in 2 or 3 whatever, but the money he has cost Newcastle and time he has cost us...

If he completely turns his career round and Man Utd and gets to the World Cup next year then well done, but otherwise thankyou for leaving :)
