Cool good price, i paid £600 a month ago. Then yesterday saw it in a large PC shop for £700 !

It is a great spec laptop for the price.

Stripping all the crap tell me about it, i created the recovery disk and then deleted all the HDD partitions inc the hiddens ones and recovered it back to factory with just one partition 298Gb :)

Still a lot of crap on but just remove that the normal way.

Any questions about laptop just ask.

Thanks Ben :)

I notice there is no recovery disk with it so I am assuming now... you have to make your own? Think I may do what you have done BEN UK

Hello,

I have had a Acer 5051 laptop for nearly 2 and a half years now, cost me £450 and its serviced me well but its time for a upgrade.

Looking to spend no more than £500 really. Hoping to get £100 second hand for the Acer to but towards the new one.

Looking for best performace for £500.

Hoping to beable to insall steam on it and play CS: Source at good playable frame rate

What would you recommend for £500 ?

Thanks Ben

Find someone with a 8600m GT inside it. You can pick up something decent for cheap. :)

Can't find this spec anywhere.

Infact I can't even find one with 320GB.

The best spec I'm finding is:
2.0Ghz Core 2
4GB Ram
250GB HDD
1GB Dedicated 9600m GT

Did you get yours in the UK ben?

any of you Acer owners come across issues with CPU throttling when playing games? (ie it'll become laggy ingame)

I haven't noticed any throttling at all..

Though my housemate has the same machine as me, and was running Furmark and Prime at the same time to calibrate a battery - on the couch - on the hottest day this year.

The machine didn't throttle, it just shutdown.

I'd have to say that's an extreme burn test though, and it's nice to know the machine shuts itself down rather than melts!

I got the 6930G

P7450 2.13ghz CPU
4GB Ram
9600M GT 1GB GPU
320GB HDD

Nice machine although its running on a 32bit OS so im not getting full value, I have to send off for the disk I believe.

Good to know as ive been thinking about getting this one.

Other machine i was looking at was a custom build from a place that lets you configure some aspects of the laptop

can get a 15" laptop reasonable specced laptop with a an Ati HD4650 for under £700.(even less if i buy without the OS) Cant say who they are as they are a competitor.
