VTR OR Zetec S??

I'm glad you find it hilarious. All three cars on a country lane hoon will be similar. Short ratio gearboxes optimised for TLGP suck anyway. You're making out the difference is light and day when it isn't. I don't care for 0 to 60 times, I case about handling, the package in general and how the car pulls through the gears. The VTS would hand on to the coat-tails of an ST much like a ZS would hang on to a VTS. Lets be honest here, all these cars are slow at the end of the day.

It hangs onto the coat tails of a VTR not a VTS.

A VTS would beat a Fiesta ST, i'm not saying it would be comfortable but it would beat it.

A VTS would obliterate a Zetec S like a VTR would obliterate a 1.4 Saxo Furio.

You can bang on about handling all you like, a Saxo VTS is a 106 GTi. Same engine, same chassis, same gearbox and same suspension.

Jeremy Clarkson said the 106 GTi was one of the best handling cars, ever.

Someone please tell this man.

I think you need to learn what obliterating a car actually is ;)

Also don't take clarkson as gospel, he repeats things so many times on so many different cars lol

He also claimed the Vectra VXR was had one of the worst chassis he had ever driven. His words are to be taken lightly at best. Still a VTS is a better hot hatch than a Zetec-S. VTR is still debatable. As for a Fiesta ST, standing start upto 60 I could see a VTS being slightly quicker but the lack of power is going to hold it back at higher speeds.

I loved both of my Saxo's.

The VTR because it was my first car.

The VTS because it went like the clappers and considering how cheap it was to run/insure and the return you got in fun factor, I loved it to bits.

I now own a Clio 172 (phase 2). It's leaps and bounds ahead of the Saxo's in terms of build quality, performance and general comfort.

I do sometimes miss the rawness of the VTS, you sit lower in the Saxo, there is no refinity and it generally feels quicker because it's made out of cardboard. The chassis setup is fantastic, not a hint of body roll, they handle like they are on rails. You get tired of the rawness though, some days you think it's hot, lets put the A/C on but all it has is electric windows and a sunroof.

You just cannot compare a Fiesta Zetec S to a Saxo VTS. The Zetec S is a warm hatch. The VTS a hot hatch.

It's a debate that has and will go on for years. The Zetec S fans will go on and on about how refined their Zetec S is and that they have one more * on their NCAP, meaning they would walk away from a head on with a lorry.

The Saxo fans will say how fun their car is to drive and they don't care about refinity or how it is made out of foil. In all honesty I have never heard anyone apart from Janesy B try and compare a Saxo VTS / 106 GTi to a Fiesta Zetec S.

It's plain silly.

We have different definitions of obliterate, you seem to think it means gradually pulling ahead of something while I think it's an Audi R8 overtaking a Dacia Sandero.

It's down to the driver and their preference, not Jeremy Clarkson who is the worlds most entertaining idiot and has on several occasions admitted to knowing little about cars. One mans pot of gold is another mans crock of poo. I've presented my opinion without sounding like a rabid fanboy, you should try doing the same.

This thread started out as a comparison between the VTR and ZS so i'm not sure where a VTS comes into this.

Also if your Renault is leaps and bounds better than the Saxo in terms of interior build quality, how bad is the inside of a Saxo!

Gradually pulling away? Its a good 2/2.5 seconds quicker from a standing start and 10 seconds quicker too 100. In a car of that class its hardly gradual. Granted you wont be traffic light GP'ing everywhere but its going to be noticeable on the road.

Anyway who really cares who's going to be 0.5 seconds quicker around a track.

At the end of the day a car has to be bought as a complete package, yes the VTS might have a bit more speed (although the OP asked about the VTR so you wouldnt even have that) but in every other respect the Fiesta is the better car. IMO the Saxo is a complete abomination, an absolutely pig disgusting car in every respect.

What is your take on the 106 GTi?

Disgusting too?

I have, the Clio interior is a strongly noted weakpoint which many a 172/182 owner will admit.

It is coming from a 3 series BMW - noted not a hot hatch.

You have, so you didn't notice the climate control, cruise control or half leather sports seats?

Why are we even talking about how refined a hot hatch is? You don't buy them to observe the quiet cabin or smooth ride, you buy them to throw around B roads.

I don't know i think someone called digitalwolf pulled it up

:p

Where, show me?

I clearly highlighted how the Saxo is getting on and clearly lacking mod cons, mod cons a phase 2 Fiesta Zetec S has, A/C and ABS.

I was then challenged about the build quality of the Clio which is miles better than a Saxo.

I'm not bragging about it, I couldn't give two hoots, i'm just stating the obvious.

And then the other 95% of the time when you just need to get somewhere, commute to work etc - you have to tolerate the worlds worst interior for the bragging rights of being a tiny bit quicker? What a stupid way to buy a car, something most people grow out of at 18

The clio interior is relatively nasty although it is a lot better than the Saxo/106. The Fiesta or even the Corsa interior are better - and extremely nasty compared to something like a VW/Seat

digitalwolf, from a rolling start there not much in it from a standard VTS and Zetec S

Yes it pulls ahead, but not by what your saying...
