**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

Rafa Benitez believes Xabi Alonso and Javier Mascherano owe it to Liverpool to stay at the club.

Midfield duo Alonso and Mascherano have both been strongly linked with moves away from Anfield to Spain this summer.

Real Madrid have openly declared their interest in Spanish ace Alonso, while Barcelona are keeping tabs on Mascherano.

Benitez is confident the key duo will remain on Merseyside and he has revealed he would like the pair to show some loyalty to Liverpool.

"I do not think Alonso or Mascherano will go. It is clear that they both are under contract with long-term agreements. That is it," insisted Benitez.

"There has been a lot of things written, a lot of rumours, but both players are under contract and we have no more need to talk about things.

"They are both very good players and I will be very pleased to keep them. They both have very good contracts.

"We signed them both from different situations. Alonso was coming from Real Sociedad and nobody had really heard much of him outside of Spain, he did well and we renewed his contract because of that.

"Mascherano came from West Ham where he had not been doing well. We brought him here and gave him a good contract, so we are very pleased with them both and that Liverpool has been very good to them."

Where was your loyalty last season Rafa? When you were trying to sell Alonso to get an inferior player in to replace him. Seriously the bloke lives in his own little world more than Wenger does :rolleyes:
 
Not a transfer but may affect our transfer plays; Rafa has confirmed that Aurelio is injured and he'll be out for a maximum of 2 months but he could be possibly back within a month.

Hopefully we still get shot of Dossena. We've still got Insua and we've all but signed a young french LB who's reportedly going to go straight into the first team squad so even if Aurelio's out for the first month of the season we should be ok.

That is a BIG claim, Benitez just seems a little angry and unable to control his emotions sometimes. Think of him as being on a lengthy period.

Wenger on the other hand is just plain delusional. He has got a little better of late but I remember a time when arsenal never 'lost' a game. They were robbed by the refereee usually.;)

Like a lot of people with spanish blood. Myself included. Theres a reason why there is a saying about latin temperaments.

Personally I would rather a manager who gets het up about stuff than a seemingly emotionless robot like Eriksson etc.

Ibrahimovic, was summed up really well by my Italian Hairdresser, who said on his day Ibrahimovic is the best player in the world, unplayable, but his day doesn't come round very often. :p When he's not having his day, you can't tell he's playing.
 
Bit like Drogba in that respect? I don't really rate Ibrahimovic that well although I would like to see him surrounded by a top attacking side. Inter Milan don't really offer this and Sweden certainly don't.

Drogba has his day in big games though.

E.g Fa Cup final this year and two years ago. Everton/United

Champions league Semi final vs Liverpool last year.

He always scores against Arsenal too :D

Nah Erikson was just putting his emotions and passions into other things at the time. ;)
 
Either there's some kind of mistake or somebody placed a huge bet on this; skybet have cut their odds on Ribery starting the season with Liverpool from 66/1 to 8/13 favourites :D

No doubt there's nothing there but it seems a bit strange.

What the hell???

Well that cannot possibly be right, theres no way in disneyland that we have the kind of money they are talking about for Ribery. Even if we did there has been absolutely no indication of Liverpool being interested in him, or him being interested in Liverpool.

That does indeed seem like a most peculiar betting change. Got to be a mistake surely.
