The Swine Flu Thread - All Swine Flu Rubbish In Here

I dont honestly think that Tamiflu will be as widely available as many would think.

I have to take 2 forms of ID, one being a Passport just to have these tablets handed to me tomorrow for the wife. I do agree with you in some aspects that the media is playing the game of creating widespread paranoia and anxiety to the country in order to profit but a guess again would be that some brandy drinking, cigar smoking fatboy pharmeceutical executive has got his finger in the pie of helping the media create this hype in order to make humongus profit also.

Apologies if I mispelt the big words. Got bigger things than typing corectly running through my mind. :)

Just our of curiosity where are you getting it from, as it has to be ordered in specially from government supplies and takes a few days.

It has been spreading around my workplace (a school) for the last few weeks. My sister picked it up at a rave, passed it on to my mum, brother and dad. I had a sore throat for a day last week. All done, nothing to worry about!

Im not suggesting any different Wiggins, I think thats the problem, but when everyone is wanting some there will be people that need it who will be overlooked and that will be a tragedy in my eyes, thats why im angry about what the media are doing and why im on here trying to make a few people understand things a little better :S.

Honestly though I really do hope your wife gets better quickly.

not sure if its already been mentioned or not, but the first person to have NO underlying health problems died after contracting swine flu today (well friday). :o

You gotta post up the finished version on ocuk :p

I believe it will end up on the Trust website

I work in the same building as the NHS walk in centre in Newcastle-under-lyme and there is a sign on the door leading in that says:

"STOP! If you have flu like symptoms return home and phone NHS direct on ...."

Is this a general NHS concern to stop it spreading or is it more to do with the staff?

No idea, my Manager told me today that next week I've got to get the cameras ready because we've got to make a film

the mrs works for the NHS as a pharmacist

Does she work at the City General Pharmacy by any chance?

I don't really scared, virus kill anyway if left untreated...matter of fact

I know swine flu is a lot more harmfull and only a few deaths have been reported but guess what no of the fit and heatlhy

The wife was seen at 3pm yesterday by the doctor. We had a call at 6.45pm and was told to pick the Tamiflu up from a Pharmacy in Tesco's of all places but it would not be ready until this morning.

Pretty sure all they did was courier the prescription over last night for them to have it ready this morning.

They asked for my Passport and proof of address also when I went to pick it up.

Seems ott for a pom, my local pharmacy doesn't even id me for controlled drugs lol. What are you supposed to do if you don't have a passport, die?

That's one of the major problems with anti viral drugs being pescription only, by the time most people get them the drugs are rendered ineffective.

I got my Tamiflu with no hassle whatsoever. The doctor spoke to me on the phone and told me he would fax my prescription through to the chemist. My dad went down with no ID - he just gave my name and my doctor's name - and was fine.

Im off to Mexico on Monday, I promise to come home in a fortnight and breathe heavily all over the forum, that way we can all get it and be immune by winter time, when im sure it will go mental.
:D

I swear some people are just taking a free week off. :p

Its all set up or them really on the advice my work and the NHS has given out - stay at home, don't get diagnosed by the GP so no proof needed and come back when you feel 100%.

Tbh i didn't really care at the start. But i am heading to london soon and all this is kinda putting me off. I for one wont be using he tube i can tell ya that.

I just dread to think whats it going to be like at the start of august

Micah Richards (manchester city player) also has swine flu, he is not allowed to leave cyprus because of it. he also said he feels really weak, lets see how this virus affects a fully fit premiership footballer.

I think it was more to do with the fact that I was picking the Tamiflu up on behalf of someone. I actually went to hand a £20 note to the pharmacist as payment for the prescription and he happily told me they were free.

Bugger me, the government has given me something and not asked for a payout.

The timescale for Tamiflu is a max of 48hrs to be effective so we were lucky to get it down the wife's neck within 24hrs.

Has anyone else paid for Tamilfu on prescription in the UK?

The reason I ask is that now my daughter has contracted it. It's put her on her ass and I am going to the Pharmacy again to get some Tamiflu for her.

When I went on Saturday morning for the wife (who thankfully has responded well to the treatment and is making a good recovery) the Pharmacist told me it was free and I did not have to pay.

Is this true with everyone else?
