**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

What? For rejecting bids for him from Juve and possibly Arsenal? If Rafa was trying to get shot of Alonso like some make out then he'd be playing for Juve right now.

The majority of players have a price and had somebody offered us enough then we'd have been willing to let him go, no different from this season except the price has gone up.

For wanting to get Barry in as a replacement

Compared to how he was in his first two seasons and last season he was.

That's because he was amazing then :p

And you even had the cheek last season to say that he struggles when players close him down even though he had his best ever season despite being on the end of regular leg breaking tackles. Im starting to think you're a bit negative ;)

Arsenal didn't meet the asking price was the general consensus. Allegedly it was only a couple of hundred K in difference between offer and asking price.

Really? AFAIK, Arsenal weren't even close to doing a deal. Even Juve were ~£3m out.

As i mentioned above; if Rafa was desperately trying to sell Alonso then he'd have been sold but he wasn't. At the time Alonso was one of a few dispendable players that would have raised a decent amount of money so we were open to offers.

Yeah, I don't think Arsenal were as close as a few thousand, I think it was a few million. In the end I'm glad he didn't come, I rate him very highly I just don't think he's the answer to Arsenal's midfield problems

I commend Rafa for his handling of the Alonso saga... two years ago Alonso hinted he wanted a return to spain, and again in the summer before last years season started.

We know Juve and other teams were sniffing around him, and for maybe the right amount of cash he might have gone, but Rafa knew that selling Alonso would create a backlash.

So we know Alonso has been looking for a move back home, Rafa doesnt tell the press this but announces he has made enquiries about Barry to which the press assume is a replacement for Alonso !

Alonso knows theres interest from RM, and his agent big's it all up, meanwhile Rafa makes a statement on the Liverpool website saying Masch and Alonso are NOT for sale ..

Alonso's agent can only advise him to hand in a transfer request and if its true that Xabi has done so, the fans know who to vent at ;p

Firstly, it's Xabi not Xavi ;)

Regarding the stuff last season; I really don't think Rafa was too concerned with a backlash from the fans. Had we received an offer that met his valuation then he'd have been sold. Naturally the club would prefer it to be seen as Alonso's decision rather than their decision if he was/is to leave (even if it only means we don't have to pay him a % of the transfer fee).

I also don't believe his comments about Barry had anything to do with Alonso. It was clear last summer that he wanted to sign Barry regardless of Alonso leaving or staying and I can't see how that's any different this summer.

I mentioned before that I don't think Xabi will press for a move; he doesn't seem that kind of person and im sure the loyalty bonus he stands to receive if he doesn't request a transfer might be a factor too ;)

Same here. Its really quite annoying, but also bad for the team aswell in the run up to pre-season training and getting them all together again.

We need to continue the solidity and team spirit we developed last season, but this transfer talk is disrupting it.

: on a side note :

I'd take Larik Cana as a Xabi replacement. OK hes not as good, but hes solid and looks to be the sort of player we'd need.

Cana is pretty much Mascherano but not as good, would be a massive step down from Alonso and would change your style of play massively.

I really dont know who would replace Alonso if he went, but I'm sure Benitez has plenty of targets lined up.

The only one I really have knowledge of is Javi Martinez and I believe he's already said he doesnt want to move.

Why oh why would Man City want Adebayor, purely for the options they have and will have up front anyway. So stupid.

Everton are looking at getting Defour. Awesome player

I'm sick of the transfer window already.

Boring rumours day after day that amount to nothing, the player comes out and denies it, then the rumour is still there the next day going on and on, and then eventually the player gives in and says "**** it I lied i'm moving."

I've never hated a transfer window so much.
