**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

£1million bid from Birmingham for Barry Ferguson accepted....

I for one am happy with that :) He doesn't fit in to our team anymore and he may well do a job for Alex down south.

Apparantly Sunderland are after him for £12 million, so he might be in good stead. It's understandable that they're in the market for a striker though, after letting Sissy, er... Cissé off to the Peloponnese.

I must say, pompey really do need to get this new owner in place and start doing some buying. By my calculations if Crouch goes they will only have a squad of 14 players left.

Is Hart even confirmed as their manager for next season yet?

I know there is still several weeks before the season starts, but I still think they need to start pulling their finger out and get some stuff underway otherwise it could well be a very bumpy season ahead for them.

Ha! Some of these lot are full of ****. So much for his source being validated.

Bentley has started against Exeter.

Darren Bent seems to be on Twitter and making comments about Huntelaar etc.

He posted this from the bench about half an hour ago.

It takes a while to buy a club and you can't really speed it up, City's seemed like a uber fast take over but mostly because they kept it very hush hush till the last second. THe fit and proper thing apparently is the next step, the FA or whoever have to well, probably just google the guy and see if he's fleeing murder charges or used to run a country that's about to freeze all his cash since he escaped the place and that kind of nonsense.

Newcastle and Pompie are doing the right things though, no point installing managers and spending cash on players who the new guys don't want as it decreases the value of the club. Say Newcastle sell 10 players now just to offload them and only get offers of 1mil a player because everyone knows they are desparate, while in 2 weeks with new owners with massive financial backing, they have no need to sell so the prices are "desparation fee's" and they make a lot more for them. LIkewise, give Shearer a 2 year contract at 250k a year, and if they don't want him thats half a mil to pay him off to get rid of him.

Same for Pompie, and Newcastle, make money where you can till the deals are done, then get to work. To be honest, its not hard to find cheaper players and assuming they have cash, they'll get them in quickly. I would assume they are lining up players behind the scenes and managers, and idea's and the second either club is bought everything will spring into action.

Is there something about Spurs fans that makes you lap this kind of stuff up constantly?

Yeah, like it's not present at other clubs.

And what makes it any less reliable than the gossip/rumours column that's posted on here every day?

To be fair, since you posted i've seen the Ashley Young stuff mentioned elsewhere. I like hearing all the rumours and stuff even if it doesnt turn out to be true.

Exactly. These people that get berated for claiming things are happening are the same people that are fueling 80% of this thread as well as papers etc.

The Guardian said:
Emmanuel Adebayor asks Manchester City for time to ponder £25m move.

Emmanuel Adebayor has asked for more time to mull over his proposed move from Arsenal to Manchester City, a transfer he fears could lead to strong criticisms of his motives in his native Togo. The striker's misgivings are such that City have been forced to delay plans for a medical while he considers their offer of a salary worth in excess of £150,000 a week.

which translates to

he will sign

My head still hurts from how hard I slammed it on my desk when I read the words "Villa set to sign Downing".

About time we signed someone.. but THAT? Saw him play last season and agreed with sandy, he was average in a poor side. I could well be proven wrong as he might fit in nicely but I have my doubts.

I think we're going to do **** all next season. All the expectation in December last year ended up with us being a laughing stock, and shipping in average players to fit into a fairly good squad just won't suffice. City, Everton, Spurs, even Blackburn could finish above us.

HAven't a bunch of papers reported he passed a medical already, and has the work permit sorted also now. IF theres any truth in the guardian story, its Ade/agent BS'ing to try to appear like maybe Arsenal offered him more to stay so City up their offer of wages a little.

Frankly I don't care about his motives, almost every Arsenal fan I know thinks its great news he's off and want him to sign. The quicker he leaves the more I'll like him.
