Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince - Opinions?

I thought it was going pretty well up until the last 20 minutes and then it just nose dived. They managed to turn an epic battle in the grounds of Hogwarts into a bunch of DeathEaters running away.

Also it needed more flashbacks and less random fights in cornfields.

I don't get how people think that they've missed out more from the book of the Half Blood Prince than they did the Order of the Phoenix...? At least half of the Order of the Phoenix was missed out in the film (there was SO SO SO much missing..). The Half Blood Prince did a spectacular job including as much from the book as any film adaptation I've ever seen. They also nailed the darkness from the book excellently as well.

Each to their own obviously, but I thought it was exceptional (and I absolutely loathed all of the other films, I didn't enjoy them in the slightest).

the last book is being filmed in two parts :( its gonna be another long wait... i love all harry potter films dont get me wrong, but i wish it just had more!

I totally agree, but it's the way with film adaptations of books. It's just not possible to get everything that happens in a book, into a film... I just thought that the Half Blood Prince did a much better job than the previous films (and most book to film adaptations I've seen to be honest).

Saw it today at an imax cinema. The 3d was fun :D

Thought the film was good, i just felt it missed something.

Oh and people clapped after the film

I'm a massive fan of the books, I've read them until they've fallen apart and I've replaced them many times, I waited in line for all the books since the first.

I'm not a big fan of the films to start with, I just watch them and cringe thinking they shouldn't of done this, or that's missing, or who is he, why is she in it now but wasn't cast in the first film. meh.

I just got back in, I didn't enjoy it, I just felt that, along with the first films they missed too much out, characters were missing and plot holes popped up, these films needed careful planning, and incredible writing.

This film, was probably the first film since the first or second that stuck to the story fairly well, still missed huge important chunks out, but not as much as the others.

They missed far too much out, it was noticeable in places. My younger brother enjoyed it no end, as I imagine most young children will.

I however am in the "prefer the books" group. I don't mind the films, I just think they've done things wrong.

The final chapter to the Deathly Hallows is probably one of the gayest, lamest endings to anything ever in the history of everything.

Thought it was awful, haha such a cop out, she could of written more books, or simply just a book to explain what happened in the aftermath, not one rushed chapter that took a lot away from the last book.

To be honest though, all those saying they liked the books and disliked the films (I guess I fit into that category as well), how else could the films have been made in terms of adapting the books?

I mean, to stick closely to the books would result in 7 hour movies. Or maybe the books just don't translate well/aren't that good? I agree that they gloss over too much of the under-riding emotions in the films but at the same time, I think they were destined for mediocrity. Not only that, the audience is generally very mindful of the stories in the books so that may detract from their viewing experience by remembering every little detail and not seeing everything on screen.

I'll probably enjoy The Half Blood Prince though, simply for the cinematography which looks very good.

I honestly think that they could have done a much better job, I think the first and most important thing was waiting until the last book was out before making the first.

They could have cut enough down, to make 7 2-3 hour films. They then could have done a Lord of the Rings and release extended versions of the films for fans.

The film, as from the 3rd film onwards, looked stunning.

True, but as I said, my issue is more with certain emotions and atmosphere elements being evaded than missing character X's dialogue talking to character Y during scene Z. Lets face it, the Dementors, Death Eaters and Voldermort's rise to power just aren't scary in the films and do not have the impact that they should.

Just got back and the sound went in the last 5 minuets! I saw the funny side of it :D

Loads of Harry Potter fanatics freaking out

Got 2 free cinema tickets as compensation too

A good nights work!

True, I felt that the first two films were aimed 100% at children, and as a result the films have stayed fairly light and jokey. I don't like that, I like the jokey play between some characters, but the atmosphere is very dark and unknown and well magical all the way through.

I think, in regards to missing things out, they could of written the films in such a way so that they don't need to miss things out of the last two films for fear of confusing people. I think they could have worked things better, and as I said, shot it almost scene for scene, just do a Lord of the Rings, release extended editions for hardcores like me.

There were a group of giggling little girls when me and my brother went, after getting there an hour early to get decent seats, and then having me in "the zone" they annoyed me to the point i shouted out " S T F U or i'll gank you" Yes i said the letters s t f u, and yes i said gank in a cinema, full of kids and bloody mothers.

My brother laughed.
Nobody else did.
I felt bad after :(

Don't mess with us potter fans :p

PLEASE NO SPOILERS FROM BOOKS NOT ADAPTED TO FILM YET

Anywho, saw this last night and didn't really enjoy, never seemed to get started. I've not read the books but my sister said they missed huge parts out, including a big fight scene at the end.

Does anyone else agree that Daniel Radcliffe has the acting role because he looks like Harry Potter (Cartoon), he's just an awful wooden actor! Cringe Worthy!

In fairness the acting is really awful across the bar. Apart from Alan Rickman, he was the only redeeming factor in the whole movie actually ..

The acting on the whole isn't bad.

Daniel Radcliffe has the acting range of a plank of wood, which often doesn't help the film. I don't have a massive problem with any of the other actors or actresses it's just Daniel Radcliffe, how about Warner Brothers spending some money on acting lessons.

Genuine question here (I've never seen Harry Potter).

Is this just 6 movies about Harry fighting that bald guy?
