Letter from police

can we close this thread now please? wwwaaaaaaayyy too many perfect people having a pop.

cheers

Please, quick, close the thread.
I got caught speeding and assumed everyone would just side with me because speed limits suck and are there for the taking.

So you got 3pts for 34 in a 30.
Despite what is said you WILL be more speed aware from now on.
Job done.

It was a van with two fat gay coppers in the bak.
Just because you broke the law and got caught doesn't mean you need to resort to that!
Let’s face it, you were more than 10% over the speed limit, stop whinging and take you punishment like a man.
WAAAAH I BROKE THE LAW AND THE NASTY POLICE FINED ME.
Grow up, you broke the law, take the punishment instead of blaming everyone else.
You pay up and hopefully stop moaning ;)

Some very wise words there ^^

some people are just too self righteous. I guarantee that all those who have jumped on their high horse have gone over the speed limit if they drive. Simple fact.
I got caught doing 50 in a 40 through roadworks - Coud've contested it but I didn't because I was over the limit and leaving the country for 3 months shortly after the "offence", ho hum! ;)

Everybody will go over the speed limit as it's actually too dangerous to drive in such a way to stay 100% on the limit, remember that speed limits are "limits" not the speed you should drive - 30mph doesn't mean drive at 30mph ;)

Tyre pressure?

Me too? Alythough it's more likely to be a combination of the following as to why 10% is allowed:

1.Tyre pressure - alters circumference of the wheel and hence the difference between the speedometer and your real speed.

2. Tread depth - As per point 1. In fact, the difference between a new tyre at 9mm and a legal one at 1.6mm equates to a 2.3% difference in actual speed (varies from wheel size to wheel size but easy to calculate). This is very important if your change the standard size tyres on your car. You can easily end up with your speedo saying 60 yet you will really be going 70mph

3. Speedometer inaccuracy - Speedos are only calibrated within +/- 5% of the true reading.

4. Speed cameras are "acurate" but they only have to be within 2mph of the true reading.

So in theory, you can with a combination of speedo, tyres, camera have a speedo saying 30mph but be clocked at 34mph although it is unlikely.

Speedo's can over read, ie say your doing 35 when your actually only doing 30, they cannot under read.

General concensus around torbay is its 10% + 2MPH over and your busted, but it is upto the officer if they issue a ticket or not. I know my car over reads by 2-4mph, 30 on speedo is only 28 real speed. So even if i am showing 35 on speedo, i know im only actually doing 32-33 which is within limits.

What kind of camera got you? Can you be identified from the photo?

If it was a rear-facing camera, google PACE.

Do you actually get a chance to dispute the offence or as soon as you say you were driving are you bound to take the penalties or the course if they offer it.

They don't tend to waste their time with catching speeders round here so much and the accidents that do happen aren't in the places they could do a speed check or are not even a direct result of speeding in the first place. This is probably why I still have a license.

They don't need to prove who was driving the car, if the car was driven by someone else it's up to the OP to tell them, if he can't provide adequate proof that he wasn't driving the vehicle, the registered keeper will be fined.
