**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

How do you guys rate Crouch?

It's looking like it's gonna be between him and Negredo who we sign.

Negredo has a return of about 1 goal in every 2.7 games whereas Crouch is every 2.9 games with Crouch having almost double the number of appearances.
I think Crouch would be a big success at Spurs, would much rather have him than Pav. Proven partnership with Defoe and a selfless team player.... get him in Harry he's an absolute steal at £12m in todays inflated transfer market.

It's good to see Owen getting on the scoresheet on his debut.

It was also interesting to here him say "It's just nice to play with players who are on your wavelength, spotting your runs - they are just class players."

Now that he's playing in a decent team again hopefully we'll see him make it back into the England squad in the near future.

He can't jump. That's mainly why he doesn't get on every cross.

didnt you know, white men cant jump! :p ;)

Being 6ft 9 myself, and playing regular football, the height advantage isnt as prevalent as you would think. If the defender is anygood who is marking you, its very difficult to get your head on the ball accurately.

Having said that, ive scored quite a few headers but then again i will climb over numerous defenders to get there (benefit of not having a ref :p )

yep, and a lot of the time he isnt climbing, rather he is leaning on and due to height it looks like he is climbing.

Exactly. It's shocking the amount of times he's gets pulled up for climbing when he's done nothing wrong.

As for how good Crouch is in the air in genreal; he's rubbish. It's like he's got a sponge for a head, the ball hits him rather than he heads the ball. However saying all that, because of his height he's still a big threat simply down to the fact that he'll win more than his fair share of headers and given enough chances he's bound to get 1 right.

tis true, i'm only 5'11 and if i come up against a tall git, i'll nudge them out when they're going for a header and because of their height advantage it looks like they're climbing over me.

Don't know how many headed chances he missed last season but he got the most headed goals in the Premiership so he's not too bad.

Im not convinced. He's heading is technically poor, but when you're 6 foot 7, you're going to get enough opportunities.

From his Liverpool days, I can only think of the Arsenal goal where's he's actually attacked the ball and won a header. All his other headed goals were hung up balls (usually from Finnan) and simply because of his height, he had a free header from ~6 yards out.

Little Luis Garcia was excellent in the air, if he was Crouch's size then he'd have scored loads :p

Bad light is pretty irrelevant since the overs still have to played, bbc commentary just said that.

edit: wrong thread

I hope he'll end up like Anelka was for Chelsea at the start of the season - a so-so striker (for the standard of club he's playing at, at least), but one that can convert a decent percentage of the chances the superior teammates behind him create.
