The *Official* Eve Online Thread

ok all, need a few questions answered regarding PvP as its been a year since I did any.

If you attack in low sec you lose sec status, correct?

If you get attacked and fight back you don't lose sec status?

If you get attacked in low sec, can your corp mates fight back and not lose sec status?

You don't lose sec status in 0.0?

1. Correct - Unless; You are at war with the targets corp or they have a sec status of -5.0 or less.

2. Correct

3. Not too sure. Been a while since I PVP'd and that proved to be a rather expensive affair :p

4. Correct :)

Haven't played eve in a couple of years now. Just curious as I heard you cannot sell characters on ebay any more, this true? Got 35million SP or something just going to waste at the mo!

You don't lose sec status in 0.0?

1. Only if you attack people with a sec status above -5 (plus you get a global criminal cooldown so gate guns and no highsec for 15 mins)

2. Correct

3. I think so, not sure. They definatly will not loose sec if they are in your gang.

4. Correct

too slow

I've just been in a fight in lowsec where my corp mate (and in fleet) was fighting someone in 0.4, I joined in and got the final blow and got a sec hit. Did this only happen because I got the final blow?

The other guys put a can out, my friend took from it and was aggroed. So he didn't get a sec hit.

Is there a good guide or info on how the game mechanics work with respect to aggro

If you are bigger, you have large signature radius therefore you are easier to hit so any shots will do more damage than they would if they were shooting at a smaller ship. This is how I believe it works.

A bigger signature radius will make it easyer for a turret to hit but if the turret can hit you it will do full damage reguardless of signature radius. Its falloff that effects turret damage, damage gets lower as you move from optimal range into accuracy falloff. To the point that the turret can no longer hit the target.

Tracking - Effects the change of being hit.

Target's signature radius Vs gun's signature resolution - Effects the change of being hit if the turret can track the target.

Accuracy falloff - Effects the damage done by the turret to the point that if to far out, the turret will no longer hit the target regaurdless of tracking and target's signature.

Turret.

Accuracy falloff - 20km -- if the target is at 10km less damage is done.
Optimal range - 20km -- if the target is here full damage.
Accuracy falloff - 20km -- if the target is at 30 km less damage is done.

Edit : Cleared up slightly.

When your friend took from the can, he became red to the owner of the can and the corporation that owner is in. The owner of the can and the corporation became red only to your friend. You had no aggression/kill rights on the can owner/corp. So when you attacked you attacked without provocation in regards to kill rights, therefore you took a sec hit.

So, just opened up my first L4 agent.. Good to see ISK finally starting to roll in.

Im currently not looting/salvaging anything, but I do have the skills to. Is it worth the ~25m investment in to a Salvacane just for looting/salvaging, or should i just carry on farming them without? Currently just doing a Q-3 agent, as its all I have the standings for.

i never bothered doing it personally, always found it quicker to kill/dock/kill/dock, but i used to got a corp mate to follow me around and told him he could have 70% of it for doing it, but i wouldnt do this outside of a corp, opens you up to trouble.

Scalvacane? Just use a thrasher.

4 tractors, 4 salvagers, 10MN Afterburner (yes 10!), cap recharger, cargohold expanders.

From memory:
1000ms+ 650m3
Needs engineering 5 to fit, otherwise 3 tactor beams.

Thee are 2 types of cool downs within the PVP system in EVE.

Aggression and Criminal

Agression comes from stealing loot from wrecks, can flipping etc. If you recieve an agression cooldown the other party is free to attack you without consiquence (kill rights).

Ciminal is from shooting a target that is not red. Anyone that attacks you will be red, as will pirates (sec status lower than -5), anyone with a criminal cooldown and war targets will flash red. You can attack any red taget without recieving a criminal cooldown. If you get a criminal cooldown yourself, you will loose sec status, gate/station guns will shoot you, you can be shot by anyone with no consiquence (you will be red).

You freind basically just stole from them, giving them 15 min aggression countdown (kill rights for 15 mins). They opened fire on you friend which allowed him to attack back without taking a criminal cooldown (attackable by anyone fo 15 mins due to your cime).

On the other hand, you did not have kill rights, or at war with the target, so when you attacked you lost sec status and took a 15 min criminal cooldown.

Edit: Official eve aticle on the subject

Alllec its true you cannot sell characters for real life money anymore, not sure if you could officially before.

Good news is that you can sell them for ISK. 35m sp should get you around 8-10bn isk if the char has good skills trained up. You could potentially get more if their specialised for capitals etc.....

Im trying to get back into the swing of things at the moment, but all my stuff is stuck in 0.0 on both my chars, and I've been kicked from corp for not being active :(

Need to somehow get it all moved.
