Star Wars: The Old Republic NEW VIDEO!!!!!!!!!

I cant wait im 100% behind this, and if you been following this you would be excited about it aswell. Just imagine 100's of jedis and sith fighting, all thoes lightsabers on 1 screen. Plus its got a very immersive story infact the game is bigger than any other bioware game put togther including games they aint finished makeing like dragon age.

Not impressed at all. The video completely deflated any hopes I have for this game, everything just looked extremely dated to me, although hopefully that can be improved on before launch.

As others have said, I imagine it'll be extremely scripted throughout the levelling process to a degree where it almost looks like it could be KOTOR3. What I'm interested in hearing about is what happens at the end game and how fleshed out it'll be, as this is what'll determine whether it's worth a monthly subscription.

I hate this to be honest, really annoys me, if you don't want to play multiplayer why oh why do you buy an mmo :(

Because everyone else is talking about it and you want to be seen to be with the "in crowd". Hell, we see it time and again on this forum alone, the more someone talks about a game the more the crowds want it, regardless of whether the game is right for them, their style, or even any good. Its, oh everyone is talking about it, I feel all left out, I'll get it too so I can join in on the thread. Followed 2 weeks later by, x is rubbish worst £y I ever spent etc

it aint linear you got to make a lot of choices and not everyones game is gonna be identical, its gonna be very good:)

Well we dont really know that at this stage, it could simply be that there are conversational points with answer a b or c. A takes one path, b takes one path, c takes one path. Ultimately creating 3 paths, which would still be linear.

Non-linear would be...I reach a conversational point..if I want, I can cut the person I am talking to down and kill them. Not just the ones I am "allowed" to do that to, but absolutely any npc I want.

Or alternatively...I am fighting through a "mission" with a group of players, we reach the end boss...and instead of completing the "good guy" mission and killing the boss with my group, I wait for the group to engage the boss and then promptly kill everyone in my group while they are busy with the boss because I want to help the boss and be a "bad guy". However...whats more likely is that in order to group up and do a mission you all either have to be good or bad and make the same decisions within the group, rather than 2 group members deciding to do one route and another 2 in the group deciding to do a different route. So still linear.

EDIT : I should add that they could do the above method..but only if they go with the game being FFA. But I would wager there is absolutely no chance of them thinking outside of the box and opting to take the risk of FFA.

A lot of people may not have enough play time to find a group and such so developers have to strike a balance to maximise sales/subscriptions. Of course striking that balance is the challenge.

What I don't understand are the people who play it totally as a single player game. They never join groups even when they have time and never join a Corp/Guild/PA. They don't seem to understand what they are missing out on. I played EVE Online for 5 years, but if I hadn't been in a great Corp with a load of decent people I wouldn't have played that long.

Ah well, it's their loss. Just means the servers become less crowded when they cancel their sub as they think the game is boring :D

Meh, I played Warcraft in a very large guild, I've played LOTRO purely solo, Warhammer solo and in a guild for a long time and I've found that both are just as much fun as the other, mainly depends on the game. Warcraft really did require you to be part of something larger than yourself to get the most out of it, LOTRO (pre-expansion) didn't, and Warhammer didn't to a certain extent as you could PQ solo and RvR solo and do just fine.

after seeing that clip seems a bit dated i do like the idea of full voiceovers but wont that be a lot of data? i wonder how much space you would need on your hdd :o

Well if I recall, Vanguard was something like 24gig, and that didnt have full voice overs. Did have a huge world though.

So, maybe it will be something like 30gig, now that would be a bugger to download the beta for, or to digital download the game :D

Having said that, it might not be as big as that. If they use low res textures they can cut down the size of it somewhat, also I dont know how much of it is instanced, I'm expecting a lot of instancing. I cant see any other way to make it so heavily story based other than to have it very instanced. The way I am looking at it, I expect something more akin to Neverwinter Nights than an MMO. Up to the user to decide if thats worth a monthly subscription or not.

I'm waiting to pass judgement on this until it comes out. Until I can see a review and play it for myself.

This sounds all too much like every other "wow beater" that has come out, Warhammer online is one example. Threads like this started, "best game evaa" and it was an awful mess when it came out.

I'll wait and see thank you very much, rather then shooting my load over previews and childlike hype.

Yeah I'm not really sure why people are so eager to proclaim this as the new messiah, or condemn it for that matter. Sure, criticise or praise the vids -- but know that they are pure marketing, and we haven't seen the game at all yet. Don't judge this game yet -- it's a looong time before release, lots can, and will, change.

As for animation: not a worry atm. Getting this right can be held off until the later design stages, as late as when the MMO is nearly ready to ship (in some cases, though that is cutting it a bit fine). What you're seeing in the vid is most likely placeholder stuff.

The voice over and dialogue however, is likely there for good. They're not going to re-hire actors to come in and do it all over again. Pretty much stuck with leveling up John Rambo.

I can`t get my head around the squeaky clean graphics and I also find it strange that their only bragging about the voice acting rather then the acualy game elements?

Watch our third Video Documentary where we explore how voice-over conversations deliver a deeper level of immersion and connection to the story and characters

Wild stab in the dark but there may be other videos exploring other elements.
