Will You Buy Windows 7???

You can get N in the UK too, although the MS Store seems to be the only place selling it!

That's cos no one will buy it. MS are just forced to sell it, to keep the UE retards happy. Just like probably only one or two people in this thread who would pick the E over a normal version and only because they have no idea what they are talking about.

What i'm wondering is if OEMs are going to bundle, say Firefox, with their new machines preinstalled with Windows 7? Who's going to want to buy a PC without a browser? I bet a large amount of people with a PC don't even have a clue what one is, let alone knowing how to install one. Am I being stupid or are MS allowed to sell the OEM version with IE?

they aren't I would expect 99% of computers to be bundled with IE. there was nothing stopping oems coming with Firefox or anything else. Ms aren't allowed to but nothing stopping the retailer installing IE.

I've pre-ordered it, but one question;

Will it allow you to have a: as the main hard-drive?!
It always annoys me that it to goes to c: straight away :(

IIRC it actually uses the A: drive (Virtual Floppy) when you boot of the CD. So it's actually in use when you install Windows. I use C:\ all the time (from the commandline) and it's what I'm used to so it's fine by me. Wouldn't want it any different in all honesty.

I am curious, not read the whole thread so it might be here somewhere, but what is the difference between Pro and Ultimate? Fromt he MS site, its seems nothing. It seems you get media player etc in pro and virtual pc and joining domains, but Ultimate seems to offer the same. It is only a tenner more though.

Ordered Home Premium a few days back and really looking forward to it, even though I already own Vista. I really did want Windows XP Mode though from the Pro edition but couldn't see the point of switching from HP to Pro for that when the rest of the things I'd not use.

Roll on October!

Indeed, I have loads of XP licenses hanging around, and a VM is very easy to set up. I don't see why you need XP mode, though this has probably been covered.

XP Mode runs the program as if it was actually running on your computer, i.e. it uses the system's Program Files and user documents directories. That's about the only advantage I think to using VMWare.

Although, in all my usage of Vista (since launch) it's never refused to run anything I've thrown at it. So I can't imagine 7 to be any different.

Think you'll find that the "E" (and "N") version are the only ones that are going to be officially available in the EU ... so there's not much of an issue of picking "E" over the "normal" version.

I was saying if there was a normal version we would be buying it. It's just a stupid EU ruling which we don't wont or need.

So I cant preorder this as an upgrade to vista for less than £190 for the professional version? If thats the case then its pretty poor.
