**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

Hope it gets sorted. A stint in the championship might do you good, it's a tough league to get out of, but it's got a surprisingly good level of football :)

Ashley is a clown, can't believe someone could run a club so badly.
I saw that something like 15'000 season ticket holders had renewed, 15'000 seems low.

We have more then that at Sheffield Wednesday, and we are ****.

25,000.

It might be a good idea to set up a ***Vis & Tummy's Championship Footie Spoilers*** thread for the 2 times you play each other next season, don't want the real one messed up with your fighting:p

Not really much controversy :p

He played for Ireland under 19's I think, because he's got some Irish in him.

Scotland manager said "come play for Scotland" so he played for Ireland again :p

Still a bit low ?

Is it just the fans refusing to have anything to do with Ashley ? or has it something to do with watching championship football ?

We play Newcastle only a few games in to the season, away, can't flipping wait :D :p

Bit of both I guess but get a new manager in who isn't Kinnear or Hughton and there's probably another 5k, then if Shearer is appointed probably closer to 8-10k more.

:p I think there's a few more Championship fans on here.

Anyway the Championship is the new Premiership.

Any idea's on who could do well ?
Any rumors doing the rounds about the next manager ?

No-one other than Shearer really. It doesn't really matter at the moment if he's a great manager or not I think most people just want some discipline and a bit of pride at the club for the next few years at least.

Plus if Shearer comes back Dowie will come back with and he's already gotten a club out of the Championship which can only be a good thing.

Plymouth fan? Or just want to gloat when we get beat? :p
Former :D Never thought I'd get to see the Toon play Argyle in the league :D

Would love to go up to the Toon in Sept for the away game but alas can't make it, but got plans for half-dozen of us to take the trip down from London to Home Park for the home fixture :p

Dm what about the club where he started? Didn't spend bucket loads there. With the statements given out it's quite clear the Arab owners and Sven are here for the long haul. There is no quick fix. He also only lost a handful of games for England and got city to Europe. All be it by a bit of luck.

Sweden, meh, to be completely honest, being a manager in say, Scotland, of either Celtic or Rangers, even if you're cack you'll start off with a team that will win it in a few years at the most. Same as being manager of Porto isn't a particularly hard task to win the league(till they sold every decent player in one go). Take I dunno, Hib's to the scottish title and you're talking, take the clear leaders and keep leading, not that impressive.

I think he spent something like 13 years in Serie A being fairly crap before he won a title, and spent something along the lines of £240mil, a DECADE ago, to do so. Since winning with Lazio he's done pretty much nothing, England might have won a lot under him, but its not hard to beat the San Marino's of the world, we played crap footie throughout and were no where near an improved or better team.

City were a decent team lacking a couple strikers with a much improved defence, they literally had no strikers, he bought a bunch of them, all overpriced, all basically now gone as their form went to crap. Ireland and the defence got City into Europe.

He buys success or started with it, he's yet to take a good team and make them great but he's often taken a team and without cash available made them worse.

The very clear problem is he can only get short term success. Elano and the likes on huge wages coming in for big fee's are confident as can be, as the season went on all his new buys turned to crap and his man management/motivational skills were non existant. Same for England, couldn't get them going nor did he pick the right squads, just whoevers popular, tactics were awful.

Considering he doesn't know lower league players, can't get tactics or motivation right, can't bring in huge names to just buy success, I don't know what he'll do. Of course he can just get them to buy players from a league or two higher on big wages and I'm sure they'll do ok with that, for a while.

Man City to make £50m bid for Newcastle United supporters

Premier League billionaires Manchester City have today launched an audacious bid for the entire fan base of recently relegated Newcastle United.

The unexpected move has come as part of City’s plans to be the best supported club in the world, and the so-called ‘Best Supporters In The World ’
have provided a logical starting point.

The move will see each of Newcastle United’s 50,000 ‘regulars’ offered £1,000 to change their allegiances to Manchester City.

“Our competitive advantage is our financial position, and we will buy anything and everything we feel will help us improve this football club.” Said City boss Mark Hughes.

“Securing the Newcastle United fans offers us a great opportunity to improve our position as the best supported club in the league,”

“They have just the sort of experience we’re looking for, in that they’ve enjoyed fleeting periods of great expectation followed almost immediately by abject failure, which will be useful to us in the next two years.”

Hughes continued, “We’ll happily pay top dollar for supporters who will blindly follow their team and defend them as the greatest in the world in the face of over-whelming evidence to the contrary.”

“And in that respect, the Geordies really are second to none.”

The Newcastle fans, who will not be subjected to a medical, are expected to have a ‘fully clothed at all times’ clause inserted into their Man City contracts.

A Newcastle spokesperson said that although the move has come at a bad time for them, the entire fee will be used to rebuild the supporter base into a slimmer, better looking unit which they hope will be “the envy of the Championship”.

:D

Redknapp must still be having nightmares about that Villa match when Young was eating Zokora for breakfast, next time they play he's gonna stick Chimbonda, Hutton, Corluka, Naughton and Walker on him.
