**Summer Transfer Thread: News, Rumours and Speculation**

You'd think the swap deal was Eto'o + £35m for Ameobi the way people are going on.

Here are the last three seasons goal records:

08/09
Eto'o: 36, Ibra: 29

07/08
Ibra: 22, Eto'o: 18

06/07
Ibra: 15, Eto'o: 13

Worth 38m and Hleb?

The only way it makes sense is if Eto'o really really wants to leave.

Barca are the ones paying the £30m not receiving it. :p

Really??/...hmmm i was under the impression that Inter were the ones paying that amount:eek:...wow i can see why people in here think its a terrible deal...WTF are Barca thinking??...surely it should be the other way round with Inter paying that amount for E'to and getting Hleb whilst Barca getting Ibrahamovic.

Crazy by Barca's standards.

Considering one has to work much harder for his goals and the other gets them set up on plate for him, maybe yeah.

Ibrahimovic is a different striker from Eto'o as well in that he can hold the ball up much better, something which will probably come in handy and physical English teams in the CL.

Because Eto'o only has a year left on his contract and probably wants to leave? Therefore they need to get whatever he's worth while they can.

But from what i have been told...Barca arent getting **** for him other than Ibrahamovic, who like a few people have said in here doesnt turn up for the important games....just means Henry will have to turn up:p:D.

But im hoping im proved wrong with Ibrahamovic having a stellar season and scoring plenty of goals.

Still pretty stupid of Barca to be paying that much money and giving Hleb away on loan..

I wasn't talking about a wage cap as such, we'll pay what we need to. Trouble is to attract top quality without CL football we need to offer CL wages + extra to tempt the player to forget about lack of europe... So more than any CL team sniffing around. If we do then there's the problem of our other stars like Modric & Co then going kicking Levy's door down saying WTF! :D

Also I think our priorities have just changed with the news King, Woodgate and Dawson will all miss the start of the new season. We're looking thin in that department and can we really afford to spend another season relying on King?

Indeed. That's one mega blow to have practically our top 3 CBs all missing the start of the season. Naughton is allegedly able to play CB but I haven't seen anything of him so can't comment on that. Then we have Corluka so our back line for the first few games could look like:

Chimbonda---Corluka---Naughton---Disco Benny

Well, if they are certain that he's the man they need, they must have been willing to do all they can to sign him up. It's really no more ridiculous than most of the Real transfers.

Frightening tbh :eek::(

Though I think Hutton would get the nod over Chimbo or Naughton as first choice RB? I've said it a few times but I'd like to see Huddlestone given a run at CB, especially if we're down to the bare bones.

I think a new CB should definately be a priority.

Dissapointed we sold Zokora tbh.

Although he wasn't much use against the likes of Young as pointed out by Johnny G earlier in the thread, he was always handy to have as back up for the back 4 and never moaned about where he played. Same goes for Teemu. Was very dissapointed when we sold him too.

We'd have been bonkers to turn down £8.6m for Zokora, average player. Shockingly poor ball distribution and desicion making, gave away so many silly free-kicks on the edge of our area he used to drive me mad!

Having a good engine and trying hard isn't enough to make it in the Prem, certainly not if you're wanting to finish Top 6. Palacios was a massive upgrade imho. Teemu was made of glass, talented but just not physically as tough as his tough tackling demanded.

Having seen the pre-season games, I think our back four will be:

Chimmy Corluka Devite/Thud Disco

Huntlaar would be an awesome signing, I just cannot see it happening though. Also I think we really need to invest in a new CB urgently.

I can't remember seeing Naughton play at CB. He can play RB/LB though.

Also, I'd expect him to be your first choice fullback before the end of the season. Every test he seems to have, he just plays better. So sad to see him leave. :(

I doubt he'll take Disco Bennys place if he continues his form from last season but he could well jump ahead of Hutton and Chimbonda for RB.

Harry Redknapp admits Tottenham may have to enter the market for a defender after a series of injuries left him without one fit centre-half.

Spurs had been favourites to sign England international Peter Crouch but Redknapp concedes that injuries to Michael Dawson, Jonathan Woodgate and Ledley King mean a move for a defender has now become his priority.

Redknapp revealed that King "hasn't kicked a ball all pre-season" after his long-term knee injury flared up again on his return from the summer break.

Woodgate has been sent to a specialist in America to look at a groin injury while Redknapp also revealed that former Nottingham Forest defender Dawson will miss the start of the season with an Achilles injury.

The three injuries have left Spurs without one fit recognised central defender with the Premier League season due to start in under four weeks.

"We weren't thinking of buying anyone in defence but suddenly this problem has come up all of a sudden and it leaves us short," said Redknapp.

"Suddenly your priorities change and you think maybe we'll have to do something about getting a centre half in for the start of the season because we have no central defenders."

Redknapp was also quick to dampen speculation linking both David Beckham and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar with a move to Spurs.

"I admire him (Beckham) as a person and a professional but that's not an area I'm looking to strengthen," Redknapp said.

"Aaron Lennon plays for me and has been in great form and David Bentley plays there as well.

"Huntelaar is a great player that interests us but I think it's another one that's beyond us."

Also didn't Barcelona have to compensate Eto'o for his remaining year at the club? Something like 6m EUR. Also combined with his sky high wage demands at Inter, it doesnt really sound like Eto'o wanted to leave but the club obviously haven't like him for a long time.

48m eur + Eto'o + Hleb(loan) > Ibra

Greatest transfer in a long time and one of opportunity. I really don't understand why Barca have alienated Eto'o. They are paying dearly for doing so.

Scoring 2 CL final goals and still scoring regularly each season would make you a hero at any other club.

lol, Ronaldo is cheap compared to that deal, Inter got way more out of that than Utd got out of the Ronaldo deal.

The Eto'o thing is very weird and seems to stem back to the split in the squad as Eto'o/Ronaldinho really didn't seem to get on. Even when the manager who favoured Ronaldinho and the player were booted out I guess the lingering feeling was that the club did try to ditch Eto'o. At a guess there was a split of support in the players aswell so he probably doesn't really get on with some of the team.

Its all very weird though, they say he's professional, his results on the pitch are a ridiculous goal return, never complains in training or about not starting apparently.

Then again you have to think, theres a bunch of other strikers Barca could have got who are cheaper and maybe better, loads they could have got in a straight swap deal.

By far the strangest deal of the summer, well, until Redknapp goes and gets 5 players from one club for half their actual value and all kinds of dodgey agents get involved and Redknapp gets arrested a couple times.

A ridiculous goal return which Ibrahimovic has matched. Ibrahimovic has even scored more than Torres in the last three season, for all you haters. :p

I happen to think Ibrahimovic will be a massive success at Barca and everyone can quote me on that. ;)
