Google Checkout....baahh!!!

I think some of you are confusing a Maestro to be the same as a Solo which it isn't. Maestro is the new Switch.

I've had it for 5 years and buy almost everything online with it with no problems and used it abroad. Solo is for babies yes, not Maestro, perhaps reading up on facts will make it clearer.

Reading wiki info on visa debit I cant see what difference it makes to Maestro besides being a different looking card and perhaps being charged now on hotels, airports etc as someone mentioned above.

Again Maestro is not a Mastercard which is a credit card. Seems Visa do debit and credit cards.

Sometimes GD comment on something they know nothing about, who is the peasant then?

Blah blah, wiki info is about as credible as your inferior Maestro cards! :p

Get a proper bank account :D

Yeah I got this email too, rather annoying really because it now means I'd have to use my credit card, which I don't always want to do because I then have to mess around with paying it off. Why they've stopped supporting Maestro I don't know, it's not exactly an uncommon card.

Maestro isn't a peasant card, Solo is

You won't for much longer, HSBC are replacing all their Maestro cards with Visa Debit. RBS Group (including Natwest etc) are doing the same, starting this year.

Solo is the peasant card, Not maestro. You do not get charged more for using a maestro card when booking flights and hotels.

Indeed, HSBC and RBSG are replacing maestro with Visa Delta.

I would imagine that Google's reluctance to take Maestro now is because they've missed the deadline for implementing 3D secure with their systems, or something.

Strange how when most of my friends started Uni they were only offered a Maestro account. It's widely known as the 'student' account around Nottingham/Derby.

So what your saying then is every Natwest and RBS current account is just a student account? Prior to RBSG making the deal to switch (excuse the pun) to Visa Delta ALL RBSG current accounts were MAESTRO, so in your logic not as good as Visa Delta accounts and could be considered in Nottingham/Derby to be student account?

Wow, and even Coutts and Co issue Maestro accounts so are they not as good as Visa delta accounts? I suppose they are student accounts as well? ;)

I've been using my Maestro card for nearly 14 years (since they were Switch cards,) all over Europe. Everyone I know who had/has a Solo card were limited in where they could go, and like wise for Visa Debit.

Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying :D

I guess they're being phased out because they're such great cards.
