Diet coke

Why wouldn't you consume it?

Like with anything you will have some folk that will say that the research is accurate in potentially being able to play a damaging role in brain cancers, others will say that 'that' is not so etc etc. What you need to remember is that the body will generally have an easier time in dealing a natural ingredient than an artificially engineered one. I used to have the low sugar or 'sugar free' squashes and can recall having a 'cloudy muzzy feeling' in my head. Around this time I started getting interested in what I put in my body. Soon after a suggestion by a nutritionist to take it out made a real difference. Within days my head felt clearer and the headaches went. Studies in to 'Aspartame' have shown effects of memory loss, anger, nightmares to name but a few. If you are socialising then like most things, a little occasionally should be fine but I wouldn't get in to the habit of using it a lot.

Just to add, now, years later, that I have cleaned my system right out I can honestly say I'd recommend it, you won't look back. The way I used to feel then, all these supposed every day items that people use or eat that contain chemicals are no good. Remember, what you in take will affect thought and behaviour. Everything will improve if you do a little with all food groups to chuck out as much junk as possible. You can still get p***ed with your friends now and again, no harm with a bit of living either:D

I thought fizzy drinks have been linked to gullet cancer?

...so has red wine but then again that has also been linked with helping avoid cancer!

Fizzy drinks (and that includes diet ones with Aspartame) are fine in moderation the same as sweets, chocolate, fatty foods and beer.

There are more things to worry about in life than getting cancer from fizzy pop.

I recommend a life of moderation. ;)

Pfft, sugar is bad, aspartame is bad, fat is bad, anything is bad if you eat too much.

If you like it, drink it, forget the critic! But like anything, do it in moderation.

Exactly

There's probably evidence somewhere that too much tap water is bad for you

mattheman is paranoid about his teeth iirc.

i think he's the guy who spent something like 9k on having one of his teeth cryogenicaly frozen so they could use the stem cells on him in the future.

Never done me any harm

They were selling detox so probably was a bit biased lol but googling aspartame does show up various health issues despite being approved by the government and various food agencies.

When it comes to things affecting your health, forget google, head over to pubmed. You'll find plenty of reviews on there over the safety of aspartame, all of which seem to say the same thing.

I used to drink a lot of diet coke as a kid. Kept getting recurrant headaches though. Someone suggested it might be aspartame so I cut it out. The headaches stopped pretty quickly and I've never suffered from regular headaches again.

It really annoys me that it's in loads of non-diet stuff though. I have to keep an eye on labels and I think I have a really low tolerance to it.
