Samsung i7500 (Android)

kam187 - Just received it today, all fine - the ebay seller was: techandstyle_de
They sent it the next day I paid for it, I asked them to send it via DHL, it took 4 working days.

First impressions - amazing screen, colours very vibrant indeed, the AMOLED screen really is a bonus and the phone itself is a great size, thin, it feels better in the hand than the iphone imo (I find that too wide). Im not entirely sure I like Android.. (had it a couple of hours though)

@Christo: Not bad.. i might drop them a message. That handytek store stopped responding on live chat once i asked the question!

So is yours unlocked? English manuals etc? Is it O2 branded?

Android looks ok to me, hey if you don't like it i'll buy it off you :)

Unlocked, unbranded, with standard Samsung manuals.

I hope I wont need to sell it! I didnt get on with the G1..

So Christo is there any lag when using the phone at all? I assume its the standard Google Android UI? How is it browsing the internet etc? Is the screen nice and responsive?

apparently it will be in stores wednesday or thursday according 2 of my locals stores in glasgow. cant wait - been following this handset for a while

Any more info you can give us Christo? What's the camera like? Battery life good? Good touchscreen expereince so far?

I'm ordering a Hero today, and will flog that to fund the purchase of one of these once they come out in the Uk which should be pretty much any day I would have thought

Just upgraded to a Hero on T-Mobile. They said they're out of stock, and expecting them on friday. (This is direct to t-mobile through 150 upgrades and not the stores)

I'm still hunting for a galaxy from a germany store. I've emailed a load of them!

Comments so far - my laptop battery is about to run out so posting half finished!

Camera - not bad, I have come from an N82 (one of the best camera phones) so it cant compare to a xenon flash however Id say its ok. As for video recording, its poor. The resolution for video recording on Android phones is fixed at a low res - Im assuming an update to resolve this will come sometime..

Phone itself - Perfect size, very thin, smaller than the iphone (I find the iphone too wide). The screen is fantastic very bright and vibrant colours I cant stop looking at it! The Dpad is handy for games - I couldnt get used to using a trackball on the G1.

Battery Life - My bone of contention! I thought the AMOLED Screen and higher battery capacity would give this phone a decent battery life. The battery runs down quickly, with data syncing on and normal use I wonder if the phone will barely last a day! Now, I have been playing with the phone very heavily indeed the past few days which probably accounts for its battery issues, Ill be able to give a better picture in a few days Im sure.

Android - Beginning to really like it A big plus for me is the Android market, its stocked full of apps (not too many decent games but apparently OpenGL games are on there way)

Speed

Really deciding whether to keep my Hero now after that review Christo! The thing which sells me on the i7500 is the Camera. I have seen some test shots from it, and they look stunning. The Hero's is appaling really. I'm comming from an N95 and use is quite regularly, so a good camera is a must really. Would you mind doing some test shots for me and maybe keeping track of a 'normal' days use of the battery and seeing what you get?

I read that they released a new firmware for the Galaxy to improve battery life:

"While it's not specified which improvements the ROM update will bring, it's said that it will improve the overall stability of the device, including increased user interface performance, as well as it will increase the battery run- and stand-by time."

Browser - Coming from Nokia (recently N95 8Gb/5800) the browser is a real pleasure, Id put it up there with the iphone. There is some slight stuttering (v small) when dragging around pages and no 'double tap' to zoom but those are minor points. Its quick to load easy to scroll around and looks good on the OLED.

Battery Life update - now I still have been using this phone a lot however because of the way Android works (which is ridiculous) the phone is constantly connected to a data connection be it wifi or over the network. This obviously runs down the battery quickly eg I went to bed with the phone at 60% battery, in the morning it was dead (all syncing on, why there isnt an option to connect when required (either when I want or when the sync applications require) beats be. There is a way around this - installing an app (Wisyncplus) that limits the data connection with your given preferences, battery life is far better, it should last 2 days now (complete guess though)

General speed - Id say it was good, going through menus is fast and responsive. Ive had the odd 'pause' eg when shutting down copilot live, I also installed some apps that noticably slowed down the phone - once removed it was fast again (the apps were pretty insignificant anyway).

Ill get some sample photos up in a second.

Not sure what else I can say about the phone without discussing Android. Android is a little immature, ie battery management, multitasking really does need improving (a la Symbian).

PS I updated the firmware yesterday, its good news that Samsung are updating the phone, perhaps they will be more regular?
