Everquest 2 - worth starting?

Only played EQ 2 for a few weeks, looked like a good game but coudnt get into it.

Speaking of games lasting 5 years or so, EQ 1 is still going nearly 10 1/2 years later, another expansion "Underfoot" due November 2009, I've played since July 1999.

I stopped playing a year or so ago, but my time playing it was crammed with the best gaming memories I've ever had. A truly remarkable, legendary game. Long live the king, baby!

I've had a year out, mainly because of work then the last couple playing games I've wanted to play like Crysis.

Anyway a few weeks ago I've resubscribed my 2 accounts for 2 years each & contemplating having a 3rd account playing all on one PC lol. :)

Funny that because World of Warcraft has 10 + million subs and has a higher rank on metacritic.

I wasn't aware that Everquest II still had a massive fan base.

JLS is the number 1 in the UK music charts, does that mean it is the best song ever? ;)

Not a fan of PvE really unless it is very good, which is always hard unless there is an insane amount of content which means it is hard to make it good. it is either really hard, really easy or just a case of memorising a few things, as is the way with pve, it is much eaiser to create than complete.

Give me a sandbox pvp game like Eve any day.

I downloaded the trial yesterday and took a few characters out for a test drive. I was really impressed. It is still as pretty as it always was, if not more so, with that 'realistic' feel that WoW really doesn't have. I notice that they have enabled multi core support too, which is a nice touch aspecially as I am running a Quad :)

Neriak starting area is good fun, nice little quests and feels like you are building up to something.

All in all a great experience.

I played EQ1 from 1999 to 2004 ish. It was my first MMO and I have so many great memeories, and a lot of good friends that I made there. I think part of the attraction of EQ2 is that you can revisit places, albeit rather changed but they have done really well at keeping the same general feel, which I love.

Pretty sure I am going to get a full subscription. Unfortunately the trial limits you to US servers, but I will jump on Splitpaw or Runnyeye (Any differences between the 2?) once I am fully subbed.

If you look on options > performance tab you can quickly set the visual quality. I'm not sure what seeting it defaults to but if you have a high end pc you can set the quality with 1 click to Very High quality with bloom effect waving grass etc etc. Also there is a setting to move the shadows from cpu to gpu as well :-)

Runnyeye and Splitpaw are roughly the same. So it's up to you which you pick. Sony are adding an option to purchase a server transfer from the market place which I think will cost around £12. This would mean your character wouldnt be stuck on a low population server as you would have the option to quickly transfer over to another server. Yoiu can still transfer atm but its more expensive (around £30 to do this) and its done via your account log in I beleive.

All the best

Deks

Does it have an anti-aliasing option yet? I was never able to get it to force from outside the game, it was the one thing that used to annoy me about the graphics.

And what does the marketplace actually sell then? Cosmetic stuff only or game changers?

No, DAOC is the 2nd best MMO after Ultima Online. ;) Although I agree that it's definately better than WoW, but then again doesn't have the mass appeal that WoW has.

My opinion of course :D

Your opinion is truth.

However, recently been messing about in WAR.. quite enjoying it so far.

Still playing and still one of the best MMOs i have ever played...
Shed loads of content now for a new player and shamefully solo friendly.
Splitpaw has tons of newbie guilds like Validus Fable and Unity (inside joke tee hee)
Enjoy the ride to lvl 80 but if you cant raid or your guild is too crap, the game ends there and you miss out on a load of stuff. There is only so many times you can keep playing the same stuff over and over.

played UO for 4 years and DAOC for 3 so im not being too biased :O

It's not funny at all. WoW appeals to retards, and has better advertising. DAOC appeals to people who own n00bs, like me. If you have ever played DAOC, which from your comments I presume you haven't, then you'd know instantly that DAOC is miles better than WoW in every single way.

DAOC PVP alone is legend - it has never been surpassed in ANY MMO released since.

Sure you didn't just miss the option to change region? If you are using the new station launcher you need to set it to the English flag for language rather than the American.

Never had any issues using AA with Nvidia cards, you do however have to enable it by using a command in the eq2.ini file.

Mostly cosmetic, however there are a few game changing items in there such as bonus experience potions.

oh good thing im an officer in UK then, instant fail from me :O

LOL excellent, that's going to go well then :p

My friend who is a member is Magam, currently a social member iirc.

I was in UK back in EQ1 for quite a while, raiding through Velious and some PoP content, although I understand it's a completely different crowd nowadays.

I played fairly recently, played a Shadow Knight to around level 50 i think. I found i was solo'ing too much, and was struggling to find things to do that weren't too hard. Whenever i tried to do dungeons i always ended up with a load of high level people doing that level match thingy. I was fairly well equipped but just could not gain threat quick enough to tank due to how powerful the other people were and in the end just got fed up of it. Literally just running round following the mobs as they bounced from mage to melee etc. Lost the will to play then as i couldnt be arsed to solo more or be handheld through dungeons.

This has really got me interested in playing again. I got the vanilla game when it came out and thought it was alright....but leveling up was pretty tough even at low levels if you weren't in a group and the xp debt was an asolute nightmare if you died a couple of times. I only got up to about lvl 18 I think had a big human beserker and a tiger person assassin (sorry about not remembering the names of races & classes)

It had its good points the, starting area when you got off the ship & two main Cities were fantasitcally designed. Also the area outside freeport was a pretty cool place and The Wailing Caves were pretty amusing, you'd just get numerous groups all going hell for leather to get to the end before the other groups caught up with you and got all the stuff :p

All in all I'm dead tempted to buy the new expansion pack with all the content included. :)

I tried WAR, bought a US account so I didn't have to give GOA any cash ;)

I couldn't get into it if I am honest and didn't resub after the initial month.

Tbh Im still in my initial month, so time will tell. Im sceptical about the end game content tbh, but yeah.. Ill see.

I hate the fact there is even an 'end game'. The entire concept is retarded. Bring back UO :(

Great game, played it for years and was once top of my class. It's miles better than WoW imo. Not played for a while now though and I hear they have ruined the PvP.

Decided to buy it off steam i ordered The shadow of odyssey it comes with all the expansions.
Questions:
1: whats a good race to play as?
2: evil or good?
3: whats a good starter class....theres so many:p
4: what server?
