Microsoft scraps Windows 7 'E' version for Europe

it's early so forgive me! Have dusted off the old p4 to write this, too darn slow on nokia n95.

can someone confirm that the e-version of windows 7 is the full version, ie not an update, also is win 7 64bit or are there different versions like vista / xp?

thanks ppl, going to order now, missed the original pre order due to work, don't want to miss out on full version. I have xp pro but no install discs - legal copy with key however.

So the whole world will now have the ballot screen?

This is what I'm infering since the EU won't be getting a unique copy of Windows 7.

ok. found out that all win 7 ship with 32 and 64bit versions. can breathe a little easier. Also @MAMMM clearly states that home premium e DOES not require an earlier version of windows. I've saved the page in case there's issues later. OCUK page doesn't say anything, be it upgrade or full. Not even a link to MS.

If you pre-order the "E" version you will receive the FULL none E version, and the "E" versions are still available for pre-order at OCUK.

Take a look at post #20 by Craig321 and have a look at what Microsoft them selves have said, MS statement is also quoted below.

Those who pre-ordered Windows 7 "E" through a recent discount offer will get the full version, as Microsoft had promised. However, Microsoft plans to now sell Windows 7 upgrades in Europe and also offer a higher-priced full version (for those without an earlier copy of Windows)--similar to what it is doing in the rest of the world.

Anyone who pre-ordered for Windows 7 E will get full version - not upgrdae version as MS decided to changed it as it already too late as millions of people who already pre-ordered so it stick as full version instead of upgraded version - you dont have to worry about - it will be 32bit and 64bits in full version, MS just changed it in web browser meaning putting the Ballot Box in the disc like add up features.

Wasn't Opera a large reason why this whole thing has happened? As in they were complaining? If so, I like how the proposed ballot screen has them as the last option.

Had a look at my email receipts and it doesn't list E in the description. So waiting for a fast one to be pulled, although the date ordered and price should make it clear it's an E version.

Would be easier to put ballot list in alpabetical order. As already stated Opera been given last place and IE first spot.

So all of us that pre-ordered will get a full retail 32-bit/64-bit copy?

[Edit]
Looks like the retailer I bought from has updated names etc.
<refer to original post>
Can't wait :D

Yikes. Was that price from a regular retailor and including VAT?

Then suddenly you would find Opera considering a rename to aopera or something silly. (Kidding of course - I hope.)

I'm all for the change as hopefully people will be more inclined to use a better browser (will certainly make my job easier in the long run). I just think the reasoning behind it is dumb.

It's not like IE was only recently bundled with Windows, it's been included for ages. I think it's a farce to suddenly say, "Oh, you can't include something you've included for years and years now because we don't think it's fair even though it was perfectly fine before."

Where does it end? I should create a new taskbar and then complain that the taskbar built into windows is stiffling taskbar competition.

Opera's market share, compared to other browsers isn't that good...

(the above represents this years usage)

...in fact they need to reverse their own decline. Maybe they are hoping that by having an option screen within the set-up of W7, even though they have complained about IE using the "e" symbol as they believe it will influence people to use that one, it will reduce that decline...

crap. Haven't ordered yet. :(

Damned if i'm paying £150 for an OS. This with google designing an OS and linux getting a handle on gaming.

Yes because we all know that Linux/Chrome will be able to use DirectX games... it's your own fault you missed out - there are still pre-orders available but, like everyone else, you had a chance to get an O/S at next to nothing so don't complain when they put the prices up on release.
