Microsoft scraps Windows 7 'E' version for Europe

The whole E thing is a total joke anyway - die EU!

What's wrong? Would you rather pay more and get IE, or pay less and get a choice right from the get go? I know what I prefer.

It was a stupid idea of the EU anyway, but the result has benefited us :D

Only those who preordered will benefit :p

Some two or three times over (like me ¬_¬)

:D

Good times. 2 HP copies weighing in at £90~ make this my best OS purchase ever.. and I don't even have the OS yet.

I have to agree with you.

At the price it was going for I order myself a copy and will, for sure, be building a new PC this November as a result. If the O/S was selling for around £150 I may of just stuck with my existing XP setup.

By saving the £100 or whatever it will be can be saved in my bank or go towards better component parts for the computer. The price was too good to resist and can't complain really.

Anyone who buys retail Windows 7 will know all about the various browsers out there and how to get them installed via USB stick or whatever. It's hardly an issue or inconvenience for anyone in this day and age. I'm sure we all have software that's downloaded on disc or USB stick to be installed straight after the installation of Win 7.

Thank you EU for helping me to get cheaper Windows 7 :D - I just wish it was permanently at that price as it would attract more people, in my view, to that O/S.

So, Microsoft are now having to advertise competing browsers. Well, I sure hope they plan on making Apple do the same rather than just bundling Safari....

I'll be installing IE on os install then adding chrome later.

I will never use Opera again after seeing them cry so much, plus last time I used opera it just randomly stopped working for no reason, seemed quite buggy. (chrome isn't bug free either)

That's an interesting point actually. How have Apple managed to escape this?

Apple are not a monopoly in the desktop OS market, hence this does not apply to them.

A better question is how Apple have managed to get away with tying their dominant music player with their dominant music store in a way that directly prevents competitors from working in the same way (the itunes application is locked to Ipods, and as seen from the Palm Pre incident, Apple are determined to take steps to keep it that way). That is much worse than anything Apple have done, the equivilent of not letting alternative browsers access the internet through the same means as IE.

I'd imagine the critical difference is that, unlike MS, Apple don't hold a monopoly (or near-monopoly) of the desktop OS market - if their share were closer to 50% and/or there were other major players in the field, I guess the EU might let each one bundle whatever they wanted and let them slug it out.

Well the FTC in America are investigating them so the EU doesn't have to do anything yet, unless of course Apple buy their way out of trouble with "donations".

Bought copy @ £49 for my grandson, now he says he hates the beta rc, & wants his xp back !

That's just (grand)children for you .... I've just upgrade the PC my kids use from Atlhlon XP2600 + 1MB DDR + GF 6800LE to a 7750X2 + 4MB DDR2 + 3850 and now whenever anything goes wrong I just get a chorus of "I hate this new computer, it doesn't work, I want the old computer back" etc etc etc
