Microsoft scraps Windows 7 'E' version for Europe

So, Microsoft are now having to advertise competing browsers. Well, I sure hope they plan on making Apple do the same rather than just bundling Safari....

Because Safari on mac is faster and better than any of the others available while IE is **** on Windows?

Apple is the combination of Hardware and Software, that is the selling point.

The day the EU forces apple to sell OS X for the Windows market would be the day apple computers come to an end.

That product description is painful reading! Surely that can't be an official one?

Don't be daft - IE isn't terrible on windows at all and that's coming from a firefox user.

And nobody is asking for OSX to be sold to the world..? Just wondering why other operating systems aren't having to give a choice of browsers (which is down to marketshare as pointed out above).

Yes that would be why the majority of internet users use IE?

What Windows are doing with IE is what Apple do with Safari so if MS get's taken to court of anti-competition then so should Apple.

Eh? You've lost me.

What Windows are doing with IE is what Apple do with Safari so if MS get's taken to court of anti-competition then so should Apple.

I'm fully aware that technically, Apple are in the wrong (although don't they have a link to Opera or something in OSX? Just something I heard, not stating it as fact) but the market share Apple holds in the OS market isn't significant enough to influence the browser "market" (how on earth the browsers make their money, I have no idea!), hence why they aren't being included in this ruling. That IS the reason. Whether I agree with it or not is another matter.

I personally think Apple are very anti-competitive but that's OT.

I personally don't think that it should just be down just to there market share. Surely it should be down to the way they go about there business.

I think iTunes is very anti-competitive and that's probably the biggest online music market.

What's amazing though is the EU only goes after those it can get billions from. It's not there to help reform. It's all about the money. (i.e. its fine first then encourage them to change).

i've just ordered my pre order version. Went for the Professional as it was £50 less than what OCUK have it for sale at and the same price as the HP :D

I did this too, never got round to ordering HP for £50, and after the announcement MOST of the shops, like OCuk put their prices back up to £70/HP, £150/Prof, £190/Ultimate.

But i found a few shops who, strangely enough put the HP and Ultimate prices up to £70 & £190 but left the prof at £100.... i was going to go for HP, the only thing Prof has that is appealing is the virtual XP mode... so for the difference of £30 i thought i might as well.

As long as i get a FULL version of professional for £100 come october 22nd ill be happy enough... would have probably preffered 2x HP for that price, but cest la vi.

There's 1 place I know that still seems to be doing HP @ £50.
Also, the place I pre-ordered from confirmed that they will be sending out full copies not upgrades.

Just checked my order at a competitors site and it has changed to the non-E version.

I quote their product description:

I think Windows 7 makes it easier to switch between programs and record tv...

thing is windows 7 doesn't make tv recording at all

I dunno why they are plugging that aspect?

er, maybe it does actually work if you have a supported tv card. :D

i'm guessing yours is not media center compatible (or doesn't have upto date drivers. check the manufacturers website). :)

i bought 2 at 50 and to be super sure ordered one from here at 70. If I get the three i'm going to keep one for later use. Although I now see that I might have been better to get family pack but I'm sure that would be tied to 3 computers.

On hearing this news even though i have already bought a premium at £45 and a professional at £80, I've just ordered another premium at £50.

Hopefully selling two of the three I don't need will pay for the one I am keeping. :D

Just seen the Overclockers newsletter adverstising Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium for £70 and i have a few questions

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=SW-124-MS&groupid=33&catid=20&subcat=

- Is this a good deal, will the cost rocket after pre-order?
- I have Vista ultimate 64bit, is it worth upgrading?
- Ideally i would like to have 64bit operating system, but i couldn't find the option for 32bit/ 64bit. Do i assume that Windows is now not bothing with 32bit systems?

Thanks.

My pre-order for W7 Home Premium from a well known rainforest is still showing as "Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium E (PC)".

Yes and it will for the retail edition you end up with here.

Some interface enhancements, some tweaks under the hood. Windows 7 is basically a prettier, leaner version of Vista.

You get both.
