I was mugged

why surprised?

Bristol is fairly crime ridden. Lots of druggies and lots of bad areas.

Well, it wasn't really meant as surprise, more of an 'oh no!' :p

You get some real odd types around Montpelier way, I'm glad I escaped that dump!

Oh, I'm cycling through Horfield tomorrow morning, don't hit me with your car ;)

Violence against the person 7.7 16.2
Sexual offences 0.4 0.9
Robbery offences 0.4 1.1
Burglary dwelling offences 5.0 4.3
Theft of a motor vehicle offences 2.2 2.7
Theft from a vehicle offences 6.7 6.9

Seems stuff gets stolen here the most. :/

yeah or they ask for the time.

anyone that ask you for anything on a london road or anywhere for that matter. tell them to **** off. sounds shreud but aye it will save you. if you do get mugged at knife point . throw you wallet or possession at a distance so it gives u plenty of time to run away
.
im serious. even if they ask you for the time, they most likely want to steal your watch, or they know who dont have a watch and are going to pull out your mobile.

problem is some people are nieve and friendly and want to be helpful. but no sorry. as soon as you step out your house and are going shepards bush, hammersmith, grove anywhere in east. dont stop for anyone. and i dont need to mention south of the river. dont go there unless u have to

I live south of the river and never have had any problems :/

There are just as many muggings in the "north" as there are south of the river. In fact I'd even suggest there are probably more north of the river - the West End is notorious for being the highest number of street crimes reported.

I am looking into Krava Maga right now. Other then that i do have a lot of friends who are hench (some who do kickboxing) and i was supposedly meeting up with some of them before i got into inccident

Seriously - don't bother. You'll get yourself badly injured or worse. Just give in, or make sure you don't get yourself in the situation, and try to be more streetwise. Or run - nothing wimpy about that.

It not just because of this event, i have always had a thing for the israeli army and their tactics. I am probly going overbored though and will make sure to stay in public places ;)

i got to disagree but not for what you think. it is a good idea to learn self defence whether you use it or not. its a skill to posess when you truly might need it, living in london that will be sooner or later. i wouldnt be typing this if it wasnt for that skill.

Anyway its all over, hope you all enjoyed my piece of entertainment for tonight :o

Glad youre ok mate :), I honestly don't know what Id do in that kind of situation.

I read what you posted about the scum and that fire extinguisher, smashing windows - it would give me great satisfaction to see people like that put through immense pain :) - I cant even begin to express in words what I think of scum like that.

when i say south im on about stockwell, bricky, streamham hill etc

where gangs like pdc,sms reside and make a living on mugging people

the reason why most crime is in central is because its crowded area and hotspots for alcohol.

i suggest you lot who seems to be confused about crime stats watch this

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00kmtl7/The_Truth_About_Crime_Violent_Crime/

and its not a waste of time to learn how to defend your self. you will keep yourself fit and make friends.(more importantly defend yourself)

looking streetwise come off it..

i mean there is people i know. that are hood and streetwise and they still get mugged by other guys in different areas. why cause they just waiting for you to be slipping(caugh off guard) so they take your ****.

to be honest i found that offensive to the OP. telling him to be streetwise as if he is some recluse and doesnt know what happens in london. he is 16 and lives in london. im sure he knows whats what. if your a teenager in london, you are pretty much more streetwise than an adult and more likely know the bad kids. because last time i checked the people that got happy slapped wernt kids. they were adults on public transports and it was the kids dishing them out. so how comes the adults wernt streetwise then

Being streetwise and staying in public places helps abit but not always. Ive been upstairs on a bus and the kid sitting one behind me who happens to lives up my street was getting mugged by two chavs. I felt terrible knowing what was going on behind me. But they didn't physically hert him and were "only" taking a few quid from him so I didn't intervean. Yes I felt terrible but its a sign of the times. I didn't know if they are carrying knives etc and interveaning for a few quid when the kids not getting physically hert, as bad as it sounds I did not want to risk my own safety and nor did anyone else upstairs on the bus. Then the chavs just ran down stairs push the emergency button on the rear door on the bus and ran off.

I still kick myself for not interveaning but as I said before for a few quid its simply not worth the risks nowadays :(

Hey mate, when I got mugged (got the **** beaten out of me in the mid 80's ) I made a special effort to visit the same area the next night.

Confront your fears now, it's the best way, honestly.

Read up on probability ;)

probability.

go to the same place are u mad.

ignore that advice

stay in well light areas and main roads. dont walk in side streets unless u are familar with the area. dont cut through estates

and stay away from any hoodrat girls im sure you saw the news recently about that girl in south london that setup her supposed boyfriend to get beat up and killed by gang and robbed

This is what I'm getting at mate, at the moment you seem to be thinking, " if I go back to that area, this guy is going to be waiting for me".

You need to overcome that. I am just trying to help based on personal experience.
